That 18oz will soften up very nicely, but will take a lot of wearing, and washers. I have some double front Carhartts, and when raw, are very stiff and armor like out of the box, but after years of wash and wear, they become buttery. It will be worth it in the long run. How you wash yours? Washer? I would love to do that and I want to have a more worn in look. I wash my duck clothing in the washer, and use the dryer, but in hot weather, hang them to dry outside. I would turn it inside out, if you want to preserve the color, as it will fade over time.

That sleeve measurement seems really short at 25". The car coat sleeves are 35", what am I missing?

I need also a fullbody selfie mirror with good lighting. There is one 25min away but that's pushing it when I should be working...right?

I just put my Ciano 18oz canvas jacket in my washer for a cold wash. I want it to be soften a bit.... wish me luck and will report back to the forum about the aftermath.

You know your 18oz canvas jacket is either haunted or bad ass when it can stand by itself. Will take a photo (when my wife walks away from the washer... or she will think I lose my fuxxing mind).

Here are the photos. Pretty bad ass on standing up by itself. My wife said that it feels like cardboard. Btw, after the wash, there is not much shrinkage but definitely soften up a TINY bit. (correction: it has strunk and look for the pre/post measurement from an update post below)

Nice jacket, Middle Age. Are those the wooden buttons? How do you find wearing the 18oz?

After a cold wash in the washer and hang dry, my 18oz coat has definitely shrunk. The sleeves are a bit short (still wearable) and totally slim fit now (great). The fabric has also soften and draped better now.
For everyone reference:
Prewash: P2P 21, Sleeve 25, back length 28, Post Wash: P2P 20, Sleeves 23, Back length 26.5.

Nice jacket, Middle Age. Are those the wooden buttons? How do you find wearing the 18oz? Yeah, those are wooden buttons. Took Ciano a bit to find them. They are sweet and make the jacket. I normally wear it with a shirt (chambray, plaid or button down) or white/blue t-shirt and Tonel jeans (indigo or brown). The texture of the 18oz feels very similar to a 20+oz heavy selvedge denim jeans, heavy with very little drape when new. I did wear it quite a bit since new and after the wash today, it is definitely feeling softer. Just visualized the same texture of a pair of tightly weaved 20+oz jeans after 3 months of wear and 1 wash. Feel very similar to me.

Its possible that the 18oz will shrink more than the 12oz. My pair of 12oz chinos shrunk an inch in inseam, and waist, but was accounted for by Ciano, so they were right on after hot wash, and dry. I have a pair of 18s coming soon, and will take this into account depending on how they fit. They are finished, except he ran out of Corozo buttons for the fly.

I really like the style. It looks miles ahead of the Gustin chore coat and pointer brand/carhartt etc. it looks great, especially with the rivetted pockets - and I think its a great value since it's made from the 18 oz fabric
