I'm finally going to take the plunge on a high end pair of boots and I cannot decide who to go with.
I love the look of the Blake boot from Rancourt, and the semi dress from Whites. I want Horween Essex for the leather.
For sizing I wear a 7.5 in RW, and need a wider toebox.
My options:
Nicks Falcon Whites Semi Dress Rancourt Blake (Although I don't see a wide option) Red Wing Iron Ranger (meh) Viberg (??) Alden (??)
So what is the one boot to rule them all fellas?

I'm a huge fan of the Essex. I think it depends on application. Rancourt is a good boot for a fair price but Blake Stitched not Goodyear Welted (I also don't like the profile of their boots, haven't been able to nail down what I don't like), which may not make a difference to you. Red Wing is going to be cheapest out of your list, and I would go there if you're going to be beating them about. If you're looking for a "nice pair" to wear during fancy-ish stuff, Alden (though these can take quite a beating). Viberg, Nicks, Whites -- you can't go wrong, just pick which one you like the looks of best. To stay true to the forum, have you considered your need for all of them?

IMO once you pass $350-400 quality will be very similar. Some would say the Blake is inferior because it's not GYW but it can still be re-soled and Rancourt makes a great product. I'd find the style you want and go for it. If your buying online return policy is a factor. Most of the true workbook styles will have generous toe box.

Damn, I don't know how I posted this in the For sale section. Must've skipped my coffee this morning. Mods, can you move to footwear please? Old26. Anyway, I could definitely see myself buying all of them in different colors, but for now I need to just pick one. Fit is the biggest consideration for me. It seems like Whites and Nicks offer a better fit program than Rancourt. That said I've dealt with Rancourts CS and their people are amazing. My favorite boot I currently own is the Danner Vertigo 1845. Fits like a glove. Red Wings fit really nicely in the toe even in D width, but most of the boots I've listed here have a slimmer toe box than the Ranger, so I'm worried about needing to get them stretched etc.

some say the quality of White's is slipping. Nick's have been better than White's lately. My white's nomad are OK but the stitching isnt the same on both boots..

Seriously, I might get some Rancourts just because of their customer service. I sent an e-mail this morning inquiring about wide widths and received a response 5 minutes later. I've sent two follow up e-mails in the span of 3 hours and both have been answered.
Plus their fit program is awesome. For $50 they will send you two pairs of shoes in any size and then apply that $50 to any custom order once you send the shoes back.

after returning a pair of aldens with less than stellar quality (especially for the price), i went through a similar decision process. i ended up ordering a pair of boots from truman (black waxed flesh) and a pair of baker's oxfords made by nick's (olive cxl). i expect the nick's to be more comfortable, but am looking forward to them equally...though the wait will be brutal. keep us updated on what you decide.
just for another data point...i've also had great service thus far from vince at truman and kyle at baker...very responsive and helpful with any question regarding sizing, leathers, time frames, etc.

I'm a huge Tricker's fan, but I gotta tell you, I have boot lust over those Trumans. Gorgeous, gorgeous boots.

Thanks for the tip though.

I'm looking to consider a pair of Iron Rangers now..... My Buzz Rickson Service shoes are proving to not be worth the money that I spent on them. Bummer. I will NOT be buying more BR products after this.

A good pair of boots will probably be my big purchase this year. I love the look of Alden jumper boots and similar styles. I'm going to save up and try to find a non-shell cordovan, black cap toe with some rubber over the leather sole.

There simply is no boot, or jeans, or shirt, or jacket to rule them all. You can start with one, but it's not going to end there. Trust.

I thought the Knox Boot made for a Rancourt x Huckberry collab knocked it out of the park. I regret not getting in on them, especially when a code dropped them to close to $300.

This is all in only 4-5months

Well you know what I'm gonna say.......... Whites.
But these are my first pair, currently waiting on a pair of Nicks.
The fun thing about Whites is you can customize the heck out of them. Great boots threads over on Style Forum.
My only advice is to consider getting all eyelets as the speedhooks can get caught on the hems of your pants if you don't cuff them. Super annoying.

My Rancourt Blake boots after almost 2 years of off/on wear. I'll say, the Blake silhouette works better with a more slim pair of trousers.

Yeah I haven't heard great things about Buzz's shoes. That's funny. My roughouts have been amazing. No issues whatsoever. Look great, feel great. Something about the leather just didn't look quality. I donno just a gut feeling. I hope Rancourt x Taylor Stitch doesn't do the Knox boot rough out again I might crack and buy them.
