Well, i decided to wear the shirt and see how i liked it. Wore it all week between Christmas and New Year and started to really like the fit. It looked great as a layering piece, either buttoned or unbuttoned and the extra material in the back didn't seem as pronounced after the shirt settled. But then I washed it. As i always do, cold cycle with cold rinse and hang dry. The 9oz chamois shrunk so much that it's now unwearable. I lost over 2" in sleeve length, 2.25" in overall length, 1" in the shoulders, and .5" in the cuff. I was shocked that this material shrunk so much. Ah, bummer. Yeah, they will definitely take care of the problem, but it is a surprising amount of shrink. I ordered a blue linen gingham and olive mesa flannel recently. Looking forward to getting them. It was a little Xmas present to myself. That and a pair of chaco sandals. I was able to customize everything on them, assembled in USA, and I got them in under a week. These are seriously comfy sandals and, unlike flip flops, you can actually wear them banging around in the woods or whatever.

Agreed with all of you. Something isn't right with this one. I don't think i've ever had a shirt shrink this much after air-drying. I've contacted Ratio and sent them a list of the post-wash measurements. I have no doubts they'll make it right.

ncbluegrass, any word on your shrunken ass shirt? Isn't their factory in NC? Just drive it on over and get it fixed up!

Actually yes... after going back and forth through email for about 3 days I shipped it back on Friday and it's out for delivery today.
I asked about the NC factory, but they made me send it back to their offices in CO because they have to verify all measurements in-house before any shirt is altered or remade. As I expected, they said this was a new material for them and that my shrinkage was a lot more than they had accounted for. I hope i know something in the next couple days, but I'm expecting a new shirt made with some increased measurements to overcompensate.
Also asked for both unfused and unlined collar, cuff adjustment on the watch side, and an 8th button.

nate001, just got an update from Ratio. "We received your shirt back here in Denver. Thanks for sending it. You’re right that shrunk at least 1/2" more and in some places a full inch more than we saw in our R&D process of the same fabric. It’s in our interest to get a blueprint size that works for this and all future shirts so that you know where to come when you need a shirt that fits, so all changes are on us this round no matter what. I’m wondering though if you have any other insights on care? Is there any chance this may have fallen into a load of laundry that got into a high heat dryer? We would be grateful for any info you can supply, so that we can get your sizing squared away big picture and it also may affect how much shrinkage we build into these shirts moving forward."

davelewis, you have a linen shirt from Ratio, right? I just got my blue gingham this weekend. It looks great and I'm really happy with it, but I noticed on the care tag it says dry clean only. Does your linen shirt say that too? I didn't think linen required dry cleaning. If you have washed it, did it come out OK? I'm not generally a fan of dry cleaning so I'd like to avoid it if possible with this shirt. If I were to wash it, I'd just do a cold water wash and hang dry. Also picked up the olive mesa flannel. I won't share a photo of it for bentin to pick apart its alignment issues, but to my amateur eye, it looks good. Collar, sleeves, horizontal and vertical alignment are all hunky dory. The wine oxford has been restocked and I have a $50 credit to burn, so I'll probably order that soon.

Their alignments have all been decent for me. And yeah, their linen says that, but I just machine wash with no agitation and hang dry. It's all been fine.

That said, I don't dry clean anything, including wool. My linen shirt got a lot of wear last Summer, and I would wash it on the gentle cycle, with cold water and hang dry. After several cycles of this, there has been no shrinkage. I think that drying linen in the dryer is hard on the fibers, and would shrink some, and there really isn't a need for it as linen drys very quickly anyway.

Received my first Ratio shirt today, and have to say I’m pretty impressed. It’s their ivory twill, and meant to match my lady’s dress, which I have not yet seen, and she is currently asleep, but as long as it pass s the color match test this will be the shirt I am to be married in. The French cuffs fall almost perfectly (I almost wish they were 1/4” or so longer but the fit every where else is so perfect I’d hate to risk them remaking this shirt and the fit being off somewhere else. They also ship with one little French cuff stud so you can try on right away, but of course I broke out the cuff links. Also had them add a bit to the length so no matter how we boogie down this’ll stay tucked and secure. What do you guys think of the cuff length? This is elbow bent about 90 degrees. url=https://postimg.org/image/xe0pqprq5/] [/url]

looks solid. If you're worrying about your shirt coming untucked you should invest in a pair of shirt stays or sock garters.

Good thought. Also forget everything I said about fit, I just read through the shipping paperwork and apparently not only do they offer a remake they pretty much suggest it, and beyond that they suggest you wash it first. I gotta wonder where all these shirts end up, but since I’ve got the time, and since this will become my Ratio blueprint, I’m definitely washing and tweaking all of my measurements.

Sleeve length looks perfect, but definitely wash it first. I find that shirts don't come untucked if you have enough tail length and they're cut fairly tight at the waist.

Shoot I wonder if I should give Ratio a go to make my wedding shirt as well.
Do we still got any promo coupons to use so I can try to order my shirt in a couple of months?

Sleeves on the ivory twill shrink a solid two inches after a cold hand wash and hang dry! Also can barely close the cuffs. So glad I washed as they suggested! Would have been a disastrous wedding fail if I had waited.

I got my remade 9oz chamois shirt over the weekend. In talking with Ratio they decided to remake the shirt with oversized measurements to allot for the additional shrinkage this material seems to have. and boy does it shrink. I'll post the exact measurements when I get home but after two cold washes and hang dries this shirt has lost almost 3 inches in the length (33 to 30.25") and over an inch in the sleeves.

Glad they were able to make things right. That is a crazy amount of shrink though. It would be hard to make a shirt to account for that amount of shrink. I bet once they sell this fabric out they don't restock. That has to be too much of a hassle. FWIW, I have shirts in a range of fabrics (chambray, madras, flannel) and haven't seen anything close to the amount of shrink you have seen. Edit: When my shirts arrive, they are definitely too big, but after a cold wash and a hang dry, they are right where they need to be. I've never done any pre/post wash measurements though.

Yeah, that just seems like far too much shrink.
I've never had anything that bad.

After trading emails back and forth Ratio had me second guessing if i had done something wrong. Did I fluff the shirt with heat instead of no-heat, or wash in warm water instead of cold. I knew that I hadn't, but I was starting to second guess the amount of shrinkage being from the fabric alone. But after receiving this one, double checking all of the temps and cycles, and still getting those kinds of measurements I know that it's the fabric and not me.
The chest, shoulders, and sleeves have all shrunk to acceptable levels. They're slightly more than my spec'd measurements but I think that works out with this heavier shirt so i can layer it or wear it alone.
It's still longer than I would prefer so i may send it back one more time and let them take an inch off the overall length and be done with it.
Also... i asked for both an unfused and unlined collar. It looks much better with this style configuration.

The major obstacle to me posting more pics is the inability to post pics directly from my phone. When I'm on the forum website on my phone, there isn't a "add image to post" button at the top of the text box. The button is there if I'm at a desktop or on my iPad though.

you should download the Tapatalk app. You can post, track threads, and attach images directly to your post.
It'll be cold enough mid week to wear it so i'll try to get a few pics uploaded then.

Would have been a disastrous wedding fail if I had waited. I’m currently trying to figure out how much is sleeve shrinkage and how much is it being a little snug across the back of the shoulders. With my hands by my side I can almost sort of wiggle the sleeves down to where they should be, but the second I move my arm at all it rides up 2.25”. But the seams at the top of the shoulder fall perfectly. I emailed them today and I’m sure they’ll have some great insights. Just curious what you would do? Add a bit to both measurements?

are you testing this with the shirt completely buttoned like you will wear it on your wedding day? If the sleeves are riding up that much it sounds like the shoulders might be a little narrow. What does the front of the shirt look like? Do you have that V shaped bunching on the front from your shoulders to the first button on your chest? If so, you might need to let the shoulders out some.
