Anyone else really into CHUP Socks? They finally have an online webstore, www.chupsocks.com Now through the end of the year they are offering free shipping on any order of 2 or more pairs. This is a pretty good deal because US shipping will be $20 starting in January. I've developed a bit of a CHUP addiction over the last year. I love these things.

I have 3 pairs. 2 From S&Strange and 1 from JC**W. I be cool if they had some warmer options, but damn, once you get into them other socks pale in comparison. I bought the RUSKA this year with the brown, white heel. I might have to cop the other two. And the pink DOMA. btw, S&S offers free shipping on CHUPS and they are $5 cheaper. chupsocks.com/collections/2017-fall-winter/products/fw17-ruska

I have been getting socks with a nice blend of merino wool but they only seem to last a year or so. I like the wool as they don't smell. They are fairly inexpensive at Costco of all places.

I don’t own any chups socks but darn tough socks are MiUSA with a nylon wool blend and they never wear out. Ever. I have multiple pairs, some of which are >5 years old and no holes. If they do wear out they will replace them for free.

The chups hold up pretty well for me so far. But I wash them on the hand wash setting and hang dry them. They are not very warm though.
I have a many darn tough and smartwool. I like them both. My longest running pair are smartwool I bought in England about 6 years ago around Christmas time on sale. They are army green, like my fathers Vietnam wool army socks we wore in the winter as kids.
ANyways, best socks I own. Go with darn near anything.

I wear darn tough mainly but I'm looking into some alpaca socks too. I have some bison/yak socks from buffalo gold and they're even warmer than my full cushion darn tough socks. I have 2 pairs of Alpacas from a lady in PA I think, who has an Alpaca farm. Anyways, one is super thick, the other pair is thinner. They feel fantastic on your feet BUT they are pretty effin warm when you are walking around in boots and wearing for an extended time.

I wouldn't classify Chup socks as cold weather socks or as extreme use socks. They're definitely on the fashion end of the boot sock spectrum. All of mine have held up very well, but I also wash them on cold and hang dry. My SO gives me hell when she comes into the laundry room and sees so many socks hanging. She's one of those "dry everything on high" kinds of people and thus we do our laundry separate.
They are super comfortable and i've spent many hours in them, but most of that time is low impact. If i need a tougher/warmer sock to spend the day in I'm definitely going with my Darn Toughs or Smart Wools.

^ That should be pretty much pinned to the top of this thread.
I hang dry everything except underwear and wash all my own clothes.
I spend far too much on clothes to have them ruined by the dryer.

Guys, I need your recommendations for boot socks. No fancy colors or textures, just good ol' boot socks that last a long time and are comfortable. I'm pretty hard on my socks with my outdoor activities and finding good socks ain't that easy. I had those RW ones before, but they wore out in a matter of weeks. Wasn't too impressed with them considering the price. I'd like the socks to be padded in the toe, heel and sole areas, but besides that, I'm open to your suggestions. Thanks

Darn tough are great! I also fell in love with the brand 'Point6' (eddie bower's First Ascent brand uses point6's socks, just with their branding) Sierra Trading Post used to carry them for under $7 a pop and I've been beating up for years hot washing/hot drying and still in great shape and a JOY to wear!

Thanks I have been wearing Fox River socks for years now. My oldest pairs go back to 2012 and I probably couldn't pick the oldest ones out of a lineup compared to newer ones (I added more to the lineup and it is all I wear now except for low socks some summer days...with many socks, I can go many time without doing laundry). They are also made in the USA if that is something you are after. www.foxsox.com/products/wick-dry-maximum?variant=21285574465I can buy stuff on the military bases, so they are only about $8 pair. I really only liked this wick dry maximum variety of their socks and it looks like you can get them on Amazon for around $10 (depending on size and color more or less). www.amazon.com/River-Military-Maximum-Large-Green/dp/B002YAO1PE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1515411616&sr=8-1&keywords=fox%2Briver%2Bsocks%2Bmaximum&th=1&psc=1the amazon reviews are generally positive (there are always some negativity...most people like Ciano Farmer, but there used to be some jerk around here who has mostly negative things to say...eff that guy!). Good luck on the journey. We wear socks every day and are often overlooked. If you find something good, holler at your boys! (just go outside and yell as loud as you can...we will be listening)

Darn tough. They are indestructible. do their socks have reinforced toes? I was lamenting the other day how so many of my socks now have toe holes. I noticed this with my pairs of Anonymousism socks and my SDA socks, so I hesitate to spend extra money on socks now because of this issue. maybe I have gargoyle toenails or something.

I noticed this with my pairs of Anonymousism socks and my SDA socks, so I hesitate to spend extra money on socks now because of this issue. maybe I have gargoyle toenails or something. The pairs I own do not have reinforced toes, but I mostly have the "lifestyle" styles, which are, for the most part, the thinnest and lightest weight. Perhaps the heavier styles (hunting, etc.) would have toe reinforcements. That said, I haven't seen much of a need for toe reinforcements on the pairs I own. I may not have gargoyle feet, but there are essentially no signs of wear on any of the darn tough socks I own and some pairs are over 5 years old. I fact, I had to tell my wife to stop getting me darn tough socks as gifts. Since they never wear out, I am running out of space in my sock drawer.

gaseousclay, another possible reason for your socks wearing out is the material. Darn tough socks are a wool/nylon blend that I think are more wear resistant than cotton, which I think is what Anonymousism socks are made from. Darn tough also has a higher percentage of nylon than many other wool socks so they are more resistant to wear than say, SmartWool socks, which I have found wear out in the heels very quickly.

I've never had holes in my socks from my toes. No matter what type of material (wool, cotton, blend), heels are always first. Maybe the issue is not with the socks, but the footwear, like boots fitting too tight or not wide enough so that it makes your toe rub against the inside of the boot? gaseousclay

I have been wearing Darn Tough and Smartwool for a few years now.
For wool winter socks, I'm leaning Smartwool.

I must be an outlier, but Smartwools are shit for me. At least those I've bought in the last decade or so. I'll never choose them over Darn Toughs.

Took two pair to Scotland and Ireland 20 years ago (yikes, initially typed 30) and never washed them over three plus weeks. Now if I wear the same, but newer model Smartwool, they're smashed paper thin by lunch and big balls of them fluff off when Inpull my boots off. DT's still look and feel like new three or four days in.
