I used to hate Smartwool, then I found a pair I liked. Now I have 8 pairs of them. You gotta try lots of socks before you find the ones right for you. I just tossed out some that were getting a little thin. All my gear now is pretty fresh. Eyeing some boots, but not much else right now...aside from picking up nice off-season bargains on Patagonia down sweaters and the like.

I bought some Richard Poorer socks off of Massdrop. The heel and ankle area doesn't hold up after only a couple months. DTS are the most durable, but not many styles to choose from. Of the styles I've bought, I wish I had bought five or six pairs. Can't find them anymore.

exophobe. There are many quality socks made in the USA. Some of the very best. Care to share a few brands? I like socks. For casual socks I like Chups. Iron Heart carries them and J. Crew does as well.

Darn Tough. Replacing all my Smartwools with 'em. Partially that's because I bought the wrong size SWs and they can't stay up. I blame bald shins. And the socks not being tall enough.

Old26 Could you share what exact model you enjoy in the DarnTough, i feel its a jungle and cant really understand what I need. I like a wee-little thicker then normal but not crazy, and extra in the heel and toe perhaps could be good. There are no "walking around in my indigo looking cool"-section but hiking or running and I dont do that stuff no more.

Honestly just go with the style that you like. They're all pretty similar.

I have some light cushion and full cushion hikers. Both are fine for hitting the office in 1k's.

I bought up a bunch of Tretorn wool blend socks at marshalls. Might be my favorite and I haven't found them since.
They're made in Korea so I'm guessing same factory as I. Crew. Very similar half the price

And these...I got mine today, the all Black with thin rainbow at the top. They feel amazing slipping on instead of the cheesy ones i had on me. I think i got too small tho bc i feel a little claustrophobic and they leave inprint on me hehe. Im gonna try a size bigget bit definayely like them alot. Thanks for the tip!

I've been picking up some Darn Tough, with the sole idea of using their lifetime guarantee. I figure at some point, I'll never have to buy anymore, but cover shipping on any I happen to wear out, and send back for replacements. Wish I could do that for other clothing, lol
Oh ya, I can do that with my Ciano stuff.

I removed all nails and exchanged for screws from under door leveling thingy that always seems to show nailheads after a while and rip socks apart. I figure no warranty if you rip them.

I wear Outlier's Megafine Socks for daily wear. I have 7 pairs (serious value to ordering in numbers) and they're pretty amazing if black socks suit your wardrobe/lifestyle. They look like you're wearing plain black socks or even dress socks. They do not stretch out after 1 or even 2 wears. They do not stink, thanks to merino. True seamless construction with varying zones of different knit patterns to help control fit & ventilation. My feet don't sweat in them(I live in Central Texas, and am no stranger to sweat). They're the best unless you're in need of no-show / low socks, or thicker cushioned hiking socks. For hiking/boot wear, I go with Darn Tough and some obscure brand I can't remember at the moment (though I much prefer it to my DT's) that's a merino/silver blend. Quality hiking socks are just more padded and wont thin out / stretch out / become misshapen with a single wear. My DT's definitely get sweaty, especially compared to the merino socks I typically wear, and they have far more elastane for stretch than any other socks I have. I use them in a pinch, but they're really my last go-to. Other brands I'd recommend are Farm To Feet (daily wear and hiking), Smartwool (only for the PhD series, particularly the low-top runners for sneaker wear - forget the rest) and Anonymousism from Japan (they're just attractive, interesting, high quality socks - nothing smart/efficient like merino though).

ickes - what's the consensus for Chup socks? Cotton or wool blend? I want some sweet foot action. Jcrew has free shipping right now so $35 shipped ain't bad I guess. I want to dabble into awesome socks.

Agree with what's been said so far. The last time I looked, not all smartwool socks are made in USA. Also, I find they wear out pretty quickly at the heel. For wool socks, Darn Tough is heads and above everyone else. I've had a few pairs for a couple of years and haven't been able to put a hole in them. They literally have a lifetime guarantee. There is a pretty wide range of styles; running, hiking, hunting, or "lifestyle" which is stuff I have for the winter. You can also wear them a few times and they don't stink. I've had luck with Dapper Classics for thinner "dress socks" that you would wear with loafers or the like. Made in USA, nice quality. Pretty price competitive when compared to Italian brands. For athletic socks, I've had good luck with Wigwam. Also all made in USA. Other made in USA socks that I've looked at, but don't own: Fox River, FITS
Are the Keens made in USA? I went to the site and they don't mention where they are made, which usually means they are made in China. Looks like they are trying to make more of their stuff in the US. Good for them. I have a pair of their snow boots and they are awesome. Bought them before they started up US production though.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I am more inclined to buy a brand where at least SOME of their products are made in the US, even if the specific item I'm buying isn't made in USA.
