My mistake.. I meant "Contrast" instead of "Tonal." The soak I was referring to is how I would consider soaking them when I receive them. I'm not sure I'll do that, though.. it'll really saturate the look. Yeah, I don't know if I would do a soak that would make them more like a blackxblack. A straight persimmon dye might look cool, though. ickes, you could always pair these with the chambray scarf . . . lol...not in a million years buddy

Yeah, black - as in Black2 - are awesome jeans. But - they fade differently than indigo as Icksey said and not much at that. In certain light, I see it, but in general, if you want sick fades brahs, black won't ever be indigo.
As for black Loomies - not me. With LD getting online, I'm not buying into the super special and rare bit unless it's for reals!

I've actually reconsidered, and will not be buying these or any other black denim from G or LD or anywhere else. Why? I have a pair of black 501s and a pair of fairly nice BR black jeans that, although they fit and look great, I never, hardly ever wear them. It just doesn't make sense for me to buy another pair of black jeans that will likely see 2 or 3 wears/year.
I think I like the idea of black jeans more than I actually like black jeans.

Im in on them. In my epic quest for a good pair of black jeans, I have yet to find a pair. Black x Black is nice, in a casually fancy kind of way. Next I have the Japan Black (I continuously stated erroneously that they was the Black2), also a decent pair. But, there is just TOO MUCH weft show through, so I fell like there is almost a metallic silvery look.
If the jeans pictured in the Blooms campaign are already soaked, THAT is what I'm looking for. Texture and color. Perfect 14oz weight.

I'm hemming and hawing on the bloomies, half hoping it funds before I make up my mind so I don't spend the money on another pair of jeans -- I'd sort of like to give Lawless a shot since I haven't taken that plunge yet.

Same boat, but I've secured a pair of the bloomies while I wait for lawless to get their site up. Good thing you can rescind your pledge while a campaign is funding. I wonder how much demand is on the sidelines, waiting for the new site though.. I'm pretty sure I'll be picking up a few things once it's up. I'm not sure I'm willing to go all in on lawless, yet, but them picking up DD and getting a call from the man himself, Roman, to nail down my order is pretty good indication that this company is something special.

I am sort of crushing on what he's doing, and want to try to get in on that tan x tan before it's gone. Plus, I can order those and a dark grey millerain workshirt for the cost of the bloomies. Well I guess that might sort of seal the deal on that argument.

Well, a couple things. While the Italian Black x Black has had a few campaigns, I don't know if they've shipped yet. However if you're looking for something like the Cone black, keep looking, cause those have a white weft (like normal denim) where those Italian BxB are gonna be a highly saturated black, and take their time giving you any sort of fading whatsoever.

elefantown; welcome to the forum. I wouldn't think the blackxblacks would fade like the cone blacks because of the fact that the cone blacks have a white weft while the blackxblacks have a black weft as exophobe stated. Look for a black denim that has white weft. My recommendation would be the Black 2s or the Cone Blacks, in that order.

elefantown - That said, I bet those Black x Black will be killer, I love the black Italian denim, very smooth, deeply saturated with none of that "western" feel that I find I get from like a cone or Japan black (though, to be fair, this is mostly how I feel with a white weft). My Black x Coal (Japanese) might become one of my favorites once I get the sulphur smell out of them, though.

Thanks for the info ickes and exophobe, much appreciated. I'm one of the members who can't see the old G forums - though I never posted, I always browsed.

I love my Black2s, but they have no sign of fading, which is just fine with me.

Yeah, you're not alone in that -- one of the reasons I registered here. I just backed the blackxblacks; I wanted a set of black jeans that wouldn't fade as quick into gray and could look a little more dressed up. We'll see how that turns out.

I have had the Black2's 33 Slim for about a year, and they just keep getting better with age. I haven't experienced much fading, and they are holding their shape nicely without excess stretching. Highly recommend those. I had the Cone Blacks for about a month, then sold them. The quality just wasn't up to the B2's. Maybe they were just too light. Recently was able to score a pair of the BlackxCoal 16oz 34 Slim on the Stock page, and haven't taken them off. The weight is bomber, and the starch is staying real crispy. Pretty sure these will be my winter denim go-tos. Love the look & feel of these. I can't shake the sulphur smell on the black x coal. Did you soak them first? I've been wearing mine a ton too. I've also straight up washed them a couple of times, once even using those Downy "Unstoppables" I use to wash my gym clothes and they're STILL pretty funky. They are great and very versatile jeans though even given the lack of contrast. Murder!

I have a pair of Gustin blackxblack and it doesn't fade much. I normally wear it when I want more black out look with leather jacket, black shirt and black boots. Work perfectly.

I hope my Black 2 will fade like that. They have a white weft so I think they should.

Gave in and cold washed the black x coal. Plenty of starch in these, eh? The sulphur smell is still there but mostly gone, I'm thinking I might finally be able to wear these out of the house. I've spent some time getting the waist stretched out so they fit again, so they will likely make their maiden "out of the house" voyage this week!

Any of you guys own a pair of black G's that show fading similar to these? Or think they will eventually fade to this? I think ickes has a bunch of the Gustin black denim, he might have some insight with those fade examples. I think the fades come down to how you treat them once you've got the basic denim in place.

Actually I only have two pairs of black Gs and neither one of them have nearly enough wear to show any fading.
I'm very impressed by the fades on the black jeans in those pics. Never seen black fades like that.

I see G have black 2.1s at only $86, on I think a 2 day run for some reason. How do these compare to the black 2s, which I gather are considered the best of the blacks.

Just for some clarification, isn't the core colour of the warp thread going to be a better predictor of how they fade than the weft? I've been led to believe a BxB would still fade to grey provided the thread has a white core (though perhaps fading wouldn't be as pronounced over a dark weft).
