Just quoted $476 for a pair of SD in chromexcel with a celastic toebox, rolled top, and block heel. Good price? These ready to wear are. $490.

Yeah, thats the pair I have coming custom in Waxed Flesh, no speed hooks, cuban heel, no pull loop, antique eyelets, C width, Vibram Commando. Most all those options are not available on the stock page. I noticed they have a Waxed Flesh link that is inacative on that page. I was told this is the same last as Whites Semi-Dress.

BTW, I've been looking at these roofers for about 3 years off and on. What's the consensus? I know that I've asked before in other places and they're a real love/hate thing...

Old26 are those the Thorogood's? I love how they look, seem crazy stiff though. I have a pair of Nick's oxfords being made on a similar Christy sole.

Sign me up for the hate team. What's the extra layer for, to hold your sammich? Upon further review, it looks like a shoe giving birth to another shoe.

bentin the birth comment is hilarious. I still like the look of those, but if I were looking for a lace to toe option I'd go for the red wing 2906

The extra layer is for stability - if you've ever roofed, you'll know why that's important. I kinda dig things that you don't see everyone in. They look more like bowling shoes to me, but they're diff'rent fer sure!

I'm hopeful in the next 4 - 6 based on my last update. 4 more weeks from today would make it 17 weeks, 6 more weeks 19weeks.

I think I've decided on the Whites. Nicks look cool, but I think I want Whites for my first pair. The Semi dress looks a little more unique than the Falcon, and the Robert boot from Nicks just looks funny to me. Plus the turnaround time on the Whites are faster right now. I can always buy some Nicks later

What d y'all think for the heel? Cuban or block? I kind of like block but Cuban seems like it'd work better for gait and it's the original heel. Also, does anyone have rolled tops? I think it looks more refined than the cut top.

Tough calls on the options. I see benefits in both the cut top and rolled. Rolled more remind me of something like the "Caterpillar" work boots, but since I cover them with denim, I don't care much. That's what's kinda taking me from the Whites Thrux to the Nicks. Nick's look a little more like they're pounded out by hand. That's what I want in the next pair of boots...the White's are almost too refined, if you know what I mean?

I couldn't dislike the Cuban heel any more, having never worn them, honestly. The profile is a bit more feminine than I want out of a pair of burly boots that are going to live forever. It is likely they feel a bit less clompy, though.

I've never understood why men would wear that - it makes a boot look like a school teacher's (women's) boot from 1865...no offense meant. Just never got that one...
