They were a KS as well right? Edit: yes they were. Not bad..The Cone Mills Blue Selvedge looks good & I like the 511/Grim tim comparson they add to the slim straight cut

the back pockets look too large, that's a pet peeve of mine. Dealbreaker.

There are some fairly odd numbers in the size charts too. Seems a bit scattershot.

Interesting. I'd like to do more research on them before offering an opinion. The $70 price tag is appealing, but fit will determine whether or not I buy.

I was searching the internets instead of working this afternoon and found Brave Star. I'm not sure they have a fit that will work for me, but they do offer exchanges (I have to pay for shipping, but that seems reasonable). They hit all my checkboxes right now: not too expensive, American made from American fabrics, some level of flexibility to find my size. Anyway, just looking for input if anyone has purchased from them.

I got a pair in the black cone denim. I don't have much frame of reference in nice denim, just getting started. But, they seem nice and we'll constructed. I'd say they are more basic as far as styling and denim. I got the slim straight, and I liked the fit. Not the not so good part, and this is on me. I shrunk them, big time. They had that sulfur smell that I've heard can happen with black denim. I had soaked them with a little vinegar first thing when I got then, so I don't even know if the sulfur smell was an issue before that point. Anyway, I tried a few things to get the smell out, and shrunk them down to a seriously slim fit. Overall, I'd say theyre good at the price if you find a fit that works.

I ended up passing on Bravestar, not because I didn't think they were worth it but because i'm looking for denim that uses more exciting fabrics rather than your standard cone mill variety. plus, i've poured over their fit guides and I'm not sure any of them would work for me.

I saw a pair of these in the wild a few days ago. I was in a Chipotle for lunch. I noticed the selvedge on his cuffs first, then noticed the embroidered star.

The embroidered star is the only thing I don't like about them i'm not big on it either. Ciano Farmer does the same thing with their denim- they embellish their jeans with an embroidered thingamajig on the coin pocket that doesn't really add any value imo. plus, I think it looks kinda tacky

I don't mind it on my 12oz ochre ducks, but if you were going with a high contrast stitch color, I can see it coming off as garish. I like the little tree though, so I don't know if I'd ask him to leave it out.

But the placement has a lot to do with that. I'm not gazing at coin pockets all that often. When manufacturers put their crazy patterns all over the back pockets it bugs me. Having said that, at least in the pictures, I don't mind the star on the Brave Star's either. It's pretty subdued.

I don't mind them as long as it is subtle. Part of the attraction to smaller brands is it is a small club. Having some type of branding can allow you run into others in the club.

I picked up a pair of Brave Star slim straights (33) in 13oz (boring maybe, but I don't take too many risks on the first pair). The pockets are big and useful, which is nice since my Moto X is kind of large. The size ended up a bit large, so instead of breaking them in through wearing first, I'm doing a quick wash in warm water, gentle cycle. That should bring the dimensions down a little, enough to be more comfortable. Without a belt, I was in danger of ye olde plumber's crack. But now that I've dialed it in, they're not bad for an affordable and fast shipping pair o' denim. Don't mind the embroidery. It's not ostentatious, so it doesn't bother me.

Well, wore 'em for two days and the wash might have been a mistake, seeing as it didn't shrink much in the waist, but the calves and knees sure feel like they did. I still like the size of the pocket bags, though, and maybe would pick a different fit that has a touch more knee room.

Every denim reacts a bit different.

Forgot to add that I have a closet full of what many would consider top end denim and the bravestar more then holds its own. I like them
