My favourite was the Belstaff Che Guevara, which was thick and old looking waxed cotton. I much preferred it to my other leather Belstaffs. That was a few years ago, and since then I got into quality leather from small local manufacturers and ebayed all my Belstaff junk. That said, I definitely was in two minds about selling the Che, as I really liked it.

I am still trying to figure out how one uses the hand warmer pockets on that L.L. Bean jacket? They seem really high compared to the Barbour jackets.

I have a Barbour bedale in sage. Sizing is nutty. I wanted a slim fit to wear over a sweater or button down went to a 36. Down from my normal jcrew suit jacket size of 42R. Could have pr

Got cut off. Pretty sure could have went 38 to be a little bigger and put over bulkier clothing but I like the slim fit.

That is what I'm struggling with. I got a navy Beaufort off of e-bay and a black Bedale off of a Gustin forum member for a total of about $200. I got both in a 42 since my suit size is usually a 41, but they feel huge. Guess I'll have to go to Orvis and try them on. Plan was/is to sell these and get a new one in the correct size and hopefully recover most of the cost from my experiment. brentkuz did you notice any issue with sleeve length? I thought that the sleeves shortened as you size down and I'm already wondering if the sleeves on these 42s are too short.

I am usually a 42R in slim cut suits a 40R in normal fuller cuts. I am a 36 barbour or 38 if I wanted a roomier fit to put in a liner or wear a really bulky sweater.

I am a 33 34max sleeve so it's short to start usually have to tailor my sleeves shorter. 36 bedale is a wee wee bit short when reaching for things. 38 was better but I wanted a slim fit.

it doesn't need repeating but what the hell. the two waxed jackets I like are the Gustin trucker and the Filson tin cloth short cruiser. Love my Gustin and plan on buying the Filson short cruiser in the future.

gaseousclay are you planning on replacing the gustin with the filson? they're so similar in look/function i'm not sure why you'd have both. (unless you're getting the filson in a lined version)

I love my Gustin waxed trucker too - but it's a bitch to wear most of the time. I took it to a movie theater the other night. It was cool outside, but as soon as we got inside, I started sweating through my t-shirt and overshirt. It's great if you live in a rainy and/or cool place, but I've found it almost impossible to enjoy very often, which is a shame. I'm considering washing it in hot water with soap to nuke the wax at this point. Has anyone done that?

I have not done this, but I'm up here in the Great Northwest, where there is no shortage of rain. Great idea to make it more wearable, and easily reversed with a can of wax.

I'm hesitant to ruin it, but as it is, I can't wear it much. Wonder what the shrinkage factor is for this stuff?

Going a 2nd round now extended wash in HOT with more soap. Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained. But unless I can get the wax out now, it's toast!

Old26 was it a visual mess, or more of a feel/textural one?

Old26 was it a visual mess, or more of a feel/textural one? All of the above! In now getting round two: The Return of hot mother-fscking water and lotsa soap. So it's either totally trashed after this, or salvaged - albeit possibly two sizes too small!

Self-destructing of some Gustin gears... I did that to my HS Work Shirt and Grey Silk... Totally destroyed it. Sleeves about 3" shorter now too. Guess I'll cut the sleeves off and make a Darryl Walking Dead vest. Dammit, I like this thing too...
