I have a black pair of the woolrich yankee (seem to have a profile similar to the beckman), but I always feel weird wearing black boots with anything other than black jeans. I just hate the look of black with navy/dark indigo. Brown just feels much more subtle with everything so end up being my go-to (but they look weird with black jeans). I'm pretty sure that's no help whatsoever, but I do wear black boots occasionally. So I know you guys hate these, but maybe this pair with some brown rawhide laces will give me something of a compromise...mostly black, work-wear look, and unique. I welcome any opinions honestly as I love them and will likely do it anyway, but I also appreciate your thoughts here - well most of the time These can look good but I think they are very limited to certain styles.

My preference for black boots is for them to be black dressy boots. Only way I would wear black boots would be with grey or navy trousers, and maybe chinos, but only with a sport coat. But not casually like with denim.

Thanks guys. The reason I'm leaning towards these is that they are different, and I've got all sorts of "normal" boots here - like maybe 15 pairs or so. More thinking...

(But I no longer buy shoes online if I can't try them on at zero cost. Too many return issues.)

Black boots.. To me either look dressy or military. I didn't have any military style but have been into it so I got these Wow! I love them. I've only worn them in the house so far but they feel great. They describe them as more fitted and that's just how they feel. Really nice leather, a lot of sluff (or whatever leather guys call that milky residue that comes to the surface). If you don't like the distressing just a little black wax will hide it. Made in USA (yes, Frye is Chinese owned) $159 on sale right now. A steal! And... These may not rule them all, but they'll sure kick their ass!

They had a similar design and aged up pretty well...my call is they got the rocknroll, lol, and they're kinda' cool.

The black roofers are 1MM x better than the pink and purple brogues. I think with a bit of wear/patina, these would look killer with jeans.

Rancourt came out with a new boot called the Fore Street Boot. Looks pretty sweet. Sign up for their mailing list for 10% off.

Talk about substantial - they feel like they would last longer than I've got left on this planet. I will take some pics later after I get showered and dressed, etc. but I'll say this - these things are so comfortable out of the box that they will require NO break-in. And they are serious boots -- I don't think I've ever owned a pair that are as solid as these are. Gotta get some brown laces later...

Click to enlarge the photo. With Gustin Japan Jutes (it's hot out). I'd say they run 1/2 size big. So for me, it's OK as I wear heavier wool socks year around. Love these boots guys.

Cool, that's the same last (60) as the Dodgevilles. 1/2 down from Brannock seems good?

Aside from my top-o-the-line western boots, I've never had a pair this comfortable out of the box. The cork soles are fab. I'm just giddy today - sorry. Thanks whiskeyriver!

whiskeyriver which roughout boots did you grab? I really want a pair, and I'm considering Truman Coyote Roughouts and the Viberg Boondockers, but I'm not sure I want to spend $700 on a pair of non-shell boots.

I am! I am addicted to suede/suede-esque boots. I want to fill up my closet with suede shoes and boots. I was considering grabbing these due to the extra 20% clearance sale AE is having on firsts.
