Before After Ok, Brahs, I finally got around to rewaxing my G trucker with some Otter Wax and here are the results. I've posted before/after shots so you get a sense of what it looks like. I posted this up on SF as well. Application: 5 oz bar of Otter wax. I applied the bar to the fabric in strokes and used my fingers to move the wax around as well as get it into the creases. The bar is tacky so be careful where you do this. I cut up a paper grocery bag and laid the jacket on top so as not to gunk up my kitchen floor, as it will definitely leave a residue. Time: It took about an hour to coat the entire jacket and I used up most of the bar. Curing: I opted not to use a hair dryer/heat gun to cure the wax based on DigDug's comment about shrinkage with his Pointer Brand chore coat. Otter Wax recommends hanging your coat up in a warm, dry space and letting it cure for 24-48 hrs, so mine is hanging up in my bathroom at the moment. Smell: The smell isn't too bad, but you definitely need some ventilation if you're sensitive to this sort of thing. I can't really describe it - it seems to have hints of beeswax and something else I can't put my finger on. It's not unpleasant, but my place quickly smelled of Otter Wax afterwards. Water Repellency: Unknown. I just did this yesterday so can't comment on this. Overall, i'm pleased with the results. The bar required a little more elbow grease than I would've liked but it was fun to do. Next time I might opt for their heat activated wax and see how much easier it would be to apply wax with a brush.

Looks awesome! Made it a little more dark. yeah, I knew it would darken the fabric but i'm guessing it will lighten up over time. At this point i'm gonna let the jacket sit and cure for a few more days and see how it feels to the touch. I'm unclear as to whether or not the wax will eventually dry up or if it'll continue to feel tacky. Worst case scenario: I'll wear the jacket in my car and it'll act like a lint roller and pick up whatever crap is on the driver's seat. If it still feels tacky after a couple more days I just may take the hair dryer approach and see if that melts the wax so the residue isn't so thick.

It does look very nice! I'm just not sure your bathroom is a "dry" place.......

Looks great and I really think the darkening works well on the jacket.

Looks great and I really think the darkening works well on the jacket. Thanks. I'm not sure what to think of the results. I've let it sit and cure for the last week and it started to form a white residue. I went and bought a cheap heat gun and used it on the trucker and it kinda seems to work in getting the residue to go away. I think the residue might be excess wax, but it shows up clearly on the jacket. I'm just gonna keep using the heat gun to melt the residue and spread it around with my finger. I hope it doesn't ruin the fabric or cause shrinkage. Although, I have a theory that factory waxed fabric may be less likely to shrink than unwaxed fabric

I'm guessing the fabric is "full" and can't absorb any more wax and the white residue is just excess wax on the surface. I'm really curious about your results/project as I've got some Otter Wax that I haven't used on anything but I'm thinking about a Frankenstein project using some heavy canvas pants, some Kevlar and some Otter Wax for a pair of motorcycle pants.

I'll probably try the rag idea or maybe even use a bristle brush to get the excess wax off.
Let us know how your project works out and post pics. Another company that makes waterproofing bars is Fjallraven, but theirs aren't intended to give your garment that waxed look. I'm also unclear if it's meant specifically for use on Fjallraven fabric. Might be ideal though for the project you're doing
addendum: The smell in my place has dissipated and is no longer noticeable after a week. I mean, you can smell it if you put your nose up against the jacket but that's it. Glad I didn't use any parrafin based reproofing waxes as I think this would require doing a job like this outside.

Here's a couple more daylight shots that didn't turn out as well because of how I laid it out. The patina and crinkling is coming out nicely. I tried to brush out the excess wax but that didn't work that well. I then tried to wipe some of it off but it seemed to come back in other areas. It's no biggie. The jacket is still pretty waxy though and leaves that residue on my fingers when I take it off or put it on. I think I need to just keep at it with a towel until the excess is gone
