There is the invaluable 'I didn't give my money to dicks' factor. I have gotten that vibe from SE. From IHUK?? No way Agreed, but you know my stance on their dinging us for VAT.

Hey run your business anyway you want. They are obviously very good and doing just fine. I won't be buying anything else from SE and I haven't bought anything from IHUK. Fair enough. But, just as they run their business as they see fit, I will spend my money as I see fit. Some retailers make it easy to get on board, others, no so..... This reminds me of the old saying, "take it easy". Well, if it's that easy, "take it twice".

Good god, don't remind me. That yellow "weathered" monstrosity just sits in my closet, mocking me. This is what it does at night, I think: That weathered yellow check shirt is my Mr. Marbles.

Yes, you can. IH-634S is at $209 with free shipping from Vari. Rail car tapering and hemming is $60 + about $12 to ship to RC. (Return shipping is included in the $60.) That's about $281 total to have 634S custom tapered and hemmed to whatever you want. A new pair of 633S are $325 plus hemming. Let's call it $340. That's a $59 difference. Ok, well in my case there would be no hemming needed so now Im at a 45 dollar difference plus a potential to get hit by customs if I order from Japan. Also if Vari doesn't have my size I'd have to do another shop on Rakuten an pay shipping. Just playing devils advocate here but it gets to the point of not being a huge savings. I got my 634s tapered/hemmed from the Denim Doctor. It cost me little to hem and taper and he did a superb job. But shipping was alot and I had to pay customs on the way back. I got them from the IH store aswell so they are my most expensive pair of jeans yet like over doubble the initial cost almost. The worst thing is that when tapering, the selvadge is kinda destoyed. It gts wide.......so wide that you cannot fold the pants and wear - it looks stupid. Now I dont really care since I never wear them like that nd Im never going to sell them, but the fact is that the 2 are not the same pair of jeans and if I could do it over I would get the slim model even if its a little more. That being said I dont really like the fit on me of IH. I like my 634s for what they are, but Im not getting anymore in the near future, mine did also deteriorate faster then any other jeans i have. The homade Quote would be something like: "Pay top dollar and get good shit, but always remeber nothing lasts forever, so think; slubby fades FTW, wabisabi, cell bitch for its valued on the journey!"

Denim Doctor tapered the selvedge seam? Those fools. Rail car would not have done that. I assumed they'd modify the inside leg seam not the outside seam.
Don't get me wrong on this topic. It's always better to get the model that fits right.
I was just comparing the possibility of modding because the IH UK markup is so high, you can modify a pair from Japan and it can still be cheaper.
I have an IH pair that needs tapering and I'll probably just sell them to get a different brand like Oni 22 or Ciano 23 oz. It's too bad Gustin gave up on 23 oz. The model #118 is excellent.

I dont remember the exact conversation but im sure i could have done the inside. He listens carefully to the customer and makes it right. I didnt care since i wont fold them. It could be that the right way is the outer seem and it feels very f!@ked up to mess with the inner seem since its connected to the cross in the middle and i was taught never to touch that, same as if you were to taper the Ass you never touch the middle seem but do it from each side. Some things will eff up tje entire look of a garment and thats more important to me then something that noone would ever see. I could be wrong and a slight taper from the inside might work perfect as long as its not from the very start but if you put them inside out you will understand why its easier to get a gradual taper going using the outside without screwing up the entire cut. I have tapered some jeans myself and always done it on the outside with good result.

for those who are interested in the secret denim there is one shop on Rakuten I see that has the 546zr aka close to same samn fit as 527zr in the 20oz secret not 22oz. (seller is lotus)
so it shouldn't be but a week or so maybe a day no idea that denimio will have some for sale.
spent all my $ on the pbj_ai003 & pbj indigo tee now.
told myself I got to many pairs of Raws like 9 so I'm done for few years buying denim.
now time to focus on shirts haha.

nice link! denimio should have them soon. I'm debating whether to get these or the 517xxbe.
Here's what I have at the moment:
G's Heavy American LD Black2 3Sixteen ST-120x G's Loomstate (on order)
Think I should opt for the more standard indigoxbeige 517xxbe or the more unique looking 546zr?
