From backed and funded to my doorstep in under two months. Now that's how it should be. Here's a link to the campaign.
Yes, they're another goddamn indigo. Yes, they're expensive. And yes, they are worth every friggin penny.
When I put these jeans on, holy shit, it's like my legs are being gently caressed by a beautiful woman. A beautiful, magical, mutant woman who instead of fingers and thumbs has five impossibly soft and fluffy little baby ducklings at the end of each hand.
I stayed up until a solid two hours past my usual bedtime on Tuesday night, pretty much entirely because I did not want to take my jeans off and go to sleep. What the f!@k is that? I don't even... If the good Lord Gustin has any leftover scraps from this run of fabric, He should see to it that the sew shop whips up some clip-on booties that I can attach to the cuffs of the jeans so I can wear them to bed like footie pajamas when it's cold out. Because I would TOTALLY DO THAT.
But not quite yet, because these things are crocking like crazy. I have a hypothesis about why, which I'll get to in a minute. But when I got home last night, my hands looked like one of those reanimated frozen corpses from north of The Wall. It was nuts. And check out the corners of the patch that already have an indigo patina after a whopping one day of wear.
Is that normal? I can't recall a pair of jeans that did anything like that after one day, but I wasn't exactly looking out for it either. By the way, don't mind how bright the denim looks; the low-angle light this morning was playing some tricks even with a UV filter on. I've corrected it as best I can while keeping the image bright enough to see the patina on the patch corners, but the darker indigo color in the background (upper left corner of the image) is definitely more representative of the actual warp color. And the color is awesome.
The Cashmeres look like a pretty standard dark indigo denim from a distance. But if you get up close, well...
Yeah, that's f!@king hot. The weft has this amazing almost electric blue tint to it. Check it out down below in the comparison shot with the weft of the Zim18s. So where that bluish weft shows through it makes the jeans look as if they're already babyfaded instead of just brighter like your standard white weft would. I love it. I'm just not 100% sure it's intentional.
If you've figured out where this is going, pat yourself on the back for being clever. If not, here's the aforementioned hypothesis. The Cashmeres were delivered on Tuesday. During an absolute deluge. That latest foot and a half of snow or whatever that fell on the northeast? Down here in the tropics that same cold front dropped like eighteen feet of rain on us in a span of about 20 minutes as it barreled through. All while the Cashmeres were hanging out on my doorstep, waiting to be let inside.
I don't know if they got full-on wet in their little padded envelope--they were not noticeably damp when I opened the bag that evening--but all that rain had to have kicked up the humidity in there a fair bit. So I'm wondering if they did get a touch moist at one point and if that's got anything to do with the tinted weft and express crocking. But then again...
Here's a side-by-side of Gustin's fabric swatch and the cuff of my jeans.
G never showed us the weft on this material, and they do not mention it having any peculiar coloration. But you can definitely see the same bluish tint on the selvage ticker in both their swatch photo and my cuff photo. So I don't know if my Cashmeres are unusual or not. I do know I'll be keen to hear from anyone else who backed these once you've received them. In the meantime, I'll be spending many hours alone in the bedroom with Miss Duckfingers. Oh yes.
