It does seem like a bit of a windup, but that's what it is. BMW is Bahh Emm Vay and most Germans call it BMV when Americanizing it.
Let's not forget that 90% of taxis are MB. My favorite was an older S Class with velour seats, a heavy coating of nicotine, a manual with foot long throws, 700k KM's and power rear windows but crank front windows. Most Anericans have no idea of how basic many German cars come for the rest of the world.

You'd think with all the Japanese denim more of you would drive Japanese cars.
I love my Honda Fit. I'm not a power guy. Zips around town easily. 46 mpg highway 35 city. Hauls a ton of stuff with fold down seats. Will run forever. Best value under $20k

The fit however does nothing for me, just nothing to it. I'm sure it's a great economy car but life's too short. I like driving cool stuff I guess power or luxury...and 1995 jeeps now that thing has a soul.

The Fit's cool because it holds more than much bigger cars. Fitting bikes and bigger stuff inside is easier than in lots of small SUV's and nearly all hatchbacks. Plus it's pretty fun to drive, bearing in mind what it is.
I like small cars, I've got a Mazda3 now that's just too big for what I prefer. I'd prefer something like a BMW 1 series hatch, just something small and rwd that has four or five doors. But we don't get anything like that here, so it's fwd or awd until someone figures it out.
I will consider the Chevy Bolt if it really does get a 200 mile range though, even though I've sworn to only buy manual cars, an electric car would cause me to break that rule. The BMW i3 was great to drive and rwd, but the 80 mile range is just a little too limiting and adding the gasoline range extender just seems silly and it's very poorly implemented in the U.S.

You'd think with all the Japanese denim more of you would drive Japanese cars. I've got a Honda Integra Type-R (DC2). They were branded Acura in the States. The most amazing timing happened the other day... I was driving out to my girlfriend's place and on the route I drive past the factory gates of Honda's UK factory. Anyway, as I waited at a roundabout I saw a cool looking white car pull out of the factory and pass in front of me. Quickly realised from the temporary plates that it was the, so far unreleased, new model Civic Type-R. A second one then pulled out and ended up behind me. So, basically, almost certainly the only two new Civic Type-Rs in the entire country/Europe were sandwiching me driving the very first model Type-R that Honda produced. Crazy. *PSA* it's dangerous to attempt to take photographs whilst driving (but I couldn't help myself - these could well be the only existing photos of the new CTR in the wild in existence!)

The civic type r is never coming fo the states. It's a shame. But even if you had one if would probably get stolen or jacked up on blocks and rims swiped, windows shattered and shift knobs taken. Etc. Thugs.

Wife has to give up her 2004 BMW 330xi Great car! But the value is only 8k (give or take) and it needs 8k worth or repairs (Axles, motor mounts, tires, breaks, etc).
So we went looking at new BMW's today, Didnt like any of them (odd, i know). Looked at anyone under 45k (2 and 3 series, X1, X3) all were simply to big. My wife likes a small, sporty, easy to see out the back, run around town (she's a Realtor), AWD.
What other car fits that description? We quickly looked at a WRX. I like it! But she's thinking its to Aggressive looking :/ Any thoughts on the WRX or any other car?

Golf R, Audi A/S3, Cadillac ATS 2.0T (modeled on the E46 you have).

Golf R, Audi A/S3, Cadillac ATS 2.0T (modeled on the E46 you have). The Cadilac won't work (she wont like the lack of vision out the back). The Golf, tough to spend 35k+ on a VW. Maybe a Audi.... Good low key car for a Realtor.... I still like the WRX.

Good low key car for a Realtor.... I still like the WRX. The ATS has pretty good sight lines, much better than most modern sedans. It drives much better than the current F30 3 series too. At least check it out in person. Enterprise has them at some locations, and 3ers too. We just bought our X1 35i because new BMW's are so boring and big. I like the BRZ, but can't warm to the current WRX/STI. Styling is way too weird. The Golf R and the S3 are identical mechanically, as are the GTI and A3. New Jaguar XE might skate in under your cap, even with awd. www.jaguarusa.com/all-models/xe/features.html

I should mention that I want a Focus RS, but it's dumb looking and probably not anything that your wife would want. The Golf R is the civilized and more mature version of it, but it seems like a car for more polite and cultured people than me.

So she would like something not trendy, something that holds its styling.

The fact that the WRX looks super aggressive compared to its predecessors makes it so much more appealing to me, but my gf doesn't like it because, her words, it looks like a bully car that'll run cars off the road. Under 45k, have you checked out the Lexus IS?

I got a Subaru XV this past March. It's on the Impreza frame, but lifted. I have excellent views out the windows and a backup camera (Limited trim line). I'm getting 32-33 MPG highway and I'm no hypermile-r. If you drop the back seats, you get some good cargo space too. But it's a hatch, if that's an issue.

The Audi 3 seems like it would be what she's looking for, and I'm sure someone here can tell better than I can, but the Golf R and the Audi 3 are pretty much the same car, though I don't know if that changed with the new 3 sedan. Plus you get the benefit of not taking the significant step down in interior quality from BMW to Subaru (I love Subaru, and they have made great strides recently, but they aren't even close to Volkswagen/Audi on materials and fit/finish). Of course you love the WRX, it's designed to give dudes that tingly feeling. My friend appears to be on the list to get one of these in October:

I feel like I'm car shopping with Goldy Locks. A friend has the Lexus IS and she doesn't like that CockPit feel it has. Haven't looked at any Audi or VW. I guess that'll be next.
Funny thing is, she doesnt even drive fast. She just likes to get across a intersection fast and up to 55 on the highway. We tested a Honda Civic. Took it up on the highway, thought she was going to ask the sales guy to get out and push. She just looked at him and said "really, this is it", lol. Decent car but not for her.

The Legacy has gotten to be a pretty big car, and I don't think they're doing a GT version lately, which means it's not going to be terribly quick. Volvo seems to have dropped the S40 and C30, so you're not likely to find anything small over there. Audi will likely be your best bet given the AWD and size requirements. Or v-dub, but you seem to prefer four circles on your volkswagen but goodness. Speaking of Volkswagens, have you guys seen the Cayman GT4?

I had to choke back a tear at automatic, but the new CVT in the WRX gets some pretty super reviews and would be recommended if they hadn't just upgraded the manual. If you can sell her on the WRX they're great bang for the buck, and super-fun for when you convince her to let you go try to get speeding tickets. I'm a big fan of the WRX in white, good luck.

If they weren't so damn stubborn they would have stopped trying to force the physics in the 911 long ago, but they just keep getting better, so who am I to judge?
