Hey brahs! Happy 2015!!! I'm sure I have a boatload to catch up on here, but I figure y'all got some nice new things! I got some Chippewa Sand Service boots coming and these new Lucchese Baby Buffalo boots. I know most of you guys don't dig 'em, but I love good boots. These were $900+ new, but I got a deal for less than that. Crazy? No, they'll last longer than me.

Those are sweet! I don't have classics, but I have a pair of calf 1883s for dancing and dressy TX use. Between those and my Redwing Pecos you have about 80% of my weekday footwear. I'm also a smooth 6'4" with the Lucchese riding heel, which my wife loves.

Nice. I'm down to about 6 pairs of Lucchese 1883's - these are the first of the handmade USA (Classics) models so I'll let you know if they're worth the extra dosh...

I've been tempted a few years at bonus time, but damn that's a chunk of change. There are a few guys around here that custom make boots around the $1k price so I'd probably do that before buying classics unless I got them for a good discount.

There are a few guys around here that custom make boots around the $1k price so I'd probably do that before buying classics unless I got them for a good discount. I've got a few pairs over the years that hit the $1k mark, but not for a while. I love the Lucchese and I know exactly how they'll fit, so it's a no-brainer when I get them at a discount. Classics are custom order, so these were made for someone and I got a good deal. I'll see if they live up to the rep. But some of them go over $3k! These are mild in that comparison. Some day I'll give a custom boot a shot like you say. But trust is important when dropping that much, so I gotta know who's making 'em. AS you know, good boots last a lifetime - I simply get re-soled when I need to. *PS - the reason I got these was I had a surprise bonus this year. Surprised because in general, the company did not hit revenues. So yeah, I got to treat me and my wife to an Xmas gift. She got a ring on our trip up to Sonoma...

For my money Lucchese Classics are the best value in higher end cowboy boots, they are the only brand/model I own. Having 13 pair from Anteater, Stingray and full quill Ostrich to Goatskin, I have a bit of an investment in them. Of all 13 pair only a pair of smooth Ostrich have toe stitching which I tend to dislike. Most are of an older vintage so not sure how the newer vintage/styles compare.
For the Classics they offer a recrafting service for around $150 (last time I used them) where they pretty much rebuild the boot. I had this done to one of my Anteater (no longer available anywhere-endangered) pairs and they came back looking like a brand new pair. It was a truly amazing transformation.

In my dreams I draw a gator hunt on the Texas coast and then get a pair of Lucchese boots made with the skin.
But seriously, Anteater? I didn't even know that was a thing.

I've got some exotics that can't even be shipped internationally any more as they are protected. Not saying it with pride, I love animals, but I try to only get things that are humanely procured. As humane as killing anything can be I guess. I love boots, shoes and jackets (as well as other gear) and well, I own it.

I'm a fourth generation Alaskan, we have some pretty horrifying family heirlooms. Hell, my mom has a pair of winter boots made out of seal fur. Probably baby seal. I'm not going to get judgey about exotic boots. I was just a bit surprised to hear of a new boot leather.

Yeah, a lot of the exotics can't even be made any longer (legally) and many of those are deadstock items. I admit to a certain level of guilt. I've never hunted, but I love shooting. I know hunters; grew up with hunters; and have them in my family. No judgement, just not my thing. So I'm a bit of a hypocrite I guess in wearing these things.

While I love my 2 pair of Anteaters, my favorites are my Classics in burgundy Stingray. The texture is just wild, they will go well with my indigo and black Gustin Loomstates. They go for anywhere from $1200 to $1500 new these days. Yikes!!

These are some of the nicest boots I've owned. The hide (baby buffalo) is amazing. The workmanship is worth the extra cash for sure, and I am definitely going to get more. Gustin #17 Super Heavies on the legs... Click to enlarge:

Very nice. I actually just donated the last pair of Western's I had, after trying them on after finding them in the back of the closet. Either my foot grew, or they shrunk, as there was no way they were going to work for me. Its OK though, because my feet don't do that great with a leather sole, as now days I need something rubber for a little more cushion.

I'd pull the trigger on a baby buffalo myself for a pair of those. Damn fine looking boots.

Haha, the laborers on my construction sites (I'm an engineer) give me all kinds of hell when I wear my Luccheses out there. Those are downtown boots for sure.

Since my wife is the best, she bought me a pair of Lucchese boots in burnished roughout for Christmas. Still not classics, but $500 boots will always make my pants tight.
