The Seahawks have been winning games by playing well for 1-2 quarters a game lately. Being a fan, its brutal watching the game start for them in the second half. It should be a great game, and I only wish that the Hawks play football from start, to finish.
They should not even be playing, except for the fact the Pack tightened up, and choked.

I have little clue about American football(*) but I bet the competitors in the Superbowl XLIX will be the same as in Superbowl XXXI .... (*) for me, football is rather two teams of 11 players each kicking a spherical ball and only the two goalkeepers allowed to use their hands I am with you, brother. Should we make a proper Footie thread or just hijack this one on Saturday mornings? (Well, morning for me as I live in the States.)

Actually, each team is responsible for the footballs they use on offense. They supply the refs 12 game balls, where they are inspected. The balls are then giving back to each team, and when they call for a ball, it is supplied by the equipment manager/ball boy for each respective team. Since the teams have control of the balls, they can be tampered with. The thing is, Belichick has been caught cheating before, and was fined $500,000, and the team lost some draft picks. I suppose that with this much money on the line, some will do whatever they can get away with to win.

What's with every conspiracy now getting the "-gate" ending, anyways? I thought the Home team provided the balls for both teams (i.e. 24 total)? They're all inspected by the officials two hours before game time then split 12-12 between the two team benches for use on offense, kicking off, etc. Apparently all of the game balls were checked before the game and passed spec. Checking afterwards showed 11 of 12 Patriots footballs under inflated, but all 12 of the Colts footballs perfectly fine. Kinda weird. Interestingly, John Madden recently said he believes the blame should be put squarely on Tom Brady's shoulders, since any modification to footballs would require his say so. Madden is only speculating, though. profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/01/21/john-madden-blame-tom-brady-for-deflated-footballs/Even so, I still don't think deflated footballs explain the absolute rout we saw last Sunday.

Each team provides their own footballs, because the quarterbacks want to use a ball that has been broken in according to how they like them. This can include things like roughing the surface, rubbing dirt on them, etc, according to how the quarterback likes them to be. After inspected by officials, they return them to the respective teams. I have to agree with Madden, as the quarterback is the guy who is most affected. They have rules for a reason, and football doesn't need this kind of stuff, but in reality, the Pats are a better team than the Colts, and have a history of beating them handily.

Who's everyone rooting for? Aside from a $20 square with a 4 for the Pats and a 7 for the Seahawks, I don't really have a favourite.
Also, if Brady wins another ring... greatest QB ever?

I don't have a real horse in this race as my team was routed in the playoffs....but I'm going Seahawks. I like watching Marshawn Lynch go full steamroller.
No hate on NE and not even going there on the cheating/not cheating discussion, I just tend to pull for the less storied franchise when it comes to a championship and two teams I'm not really invested in.
You guys with a team in this one....good game to ya!

I'm a casual Seahawks fan, but honestly I'm more excited for the 15 lbs of pork that just came off my smoker. Even if Seattle loses, everybody who attends my party will win.

Agree.. no need to be clever at the one yard line with beastmode in the backfield. If the Pats D could stop Lynch three times from the one, they'd have totally deserved the victory.

That's why we fired Pete Carroll.
Of course, if it'd worked he'd be hailed as a daring genius.

Hahahaha go Pats! Flipping amazing game. Weird call by Pete at the end best RB in the game and he put it in Russel hands. Bill with the no timeout call almost shocked me but they had goal line D and they went 3 wide. Way to go for a rookie nickel back to make a huge play.
Honestly for you football fans this reminded me a lot of the USC vs Texas national championship. Great game. Brady has his 4th ring. Gronk played amazing, Julian is a beast of a WR taking his licks and still trucking.
Can't wait for the parade!

yes, of course it was a risky decision to pass on that play instead of hand it to beast mode but the defense still had to be alert and the interception still had to be made. Give credit to the Pats.

Deflate gate gets pushed away thanks to the Best Call Ever™ from PC. I'm still in shock over this. Someone should give Pete the concussion protocol today...

It's unfortunate that this game ended with that ridiculous play call. It was punch-for-punch the entire way and very entertaining, even without having any kind of rooting interest. What a catch by Kearse!! Got Seattle all the way to the 5! That's right up there with David Tyree for all time great Super Bowl catches. It's a shame that such a great game will be forever remembered for just the last play.
I'll be keeping an eye on what happens with DeflateGate, though. SpyGate cost the Patriots a 1st round pick and a bunch of fines.

Losing with 24 not making it in is one thing, but that call just ruined it all.

All in all, I thought it was an entertaining game yesterday. Watching the Hawks this season, I have seen some of what I'd call questionable calls from the coaching staff, sitting in my backseat quarterback chair. Unfortunately for them, they kept a few in the bag for yesterdays game. Earlier in the season, while missing starters on the offensive line, they had trouble running the ball, but not really the case in this game.
Lynch had over 100 yds in the game, and I believe he was pumped to pick up a few more. It blows my mind that he was not given an opportunity to rush the ball, in the situation offered. Hell, they have even scored many times this year faking the handoff, and Wilson bootlegging for a touchdown. Another glaring mistake for young Wilson, is that he never looked off the play, but took the snap, and telegraphed where he was going with the ball. These mistakes will make for a better player down the road.
I think another glaring mistake was the best receiver matchup Seattle had was with rookie Matthews, who had a touchdown, and 109 yds receiving, and he wasn't even in the game on the final drive. Really?
Anywho, a very entertaining game for fans, and congrats to the Pats.

Odd play call by Pete but surprised. Did the same crap back at USC.
Either way it was a phenomenal play by Malcolm Butler to see the play, best the WR to the spot and hold on to the ball after contact.
My college football coach taught me one thing. A football game is not determined by one play. Over the course of the game there are 5-6 critical plays.
