Just received my Italian Black Western. I'm normally just between slim medium and large (most of my G shirts are classic medium - too boxy or slim large - arms are too long). I figured with the slim medium I might be alright since I can get the denim to stretch a little. The fit is spot on. I really like this shirt. For my first foray into the Western style, the subdued look of tonal stitching is a good small step in. I like this fabric. It has a slight sheen to it, but you can definitely see the weft popping through. As much as I know I'm in for an uphill battle to fade out the Italian fabric, I have seen some favorable results from the effort I've put in on my Italian BlackxBlack denim over the past year (zero soaks), and even my Candiani WS from the company that the AZAG now owns. Hoping for more of the same.

Got a slim XL Cone Indigo Jacquard. Nice shirt. Fits me uunlike the Classic L shirts. Good dark indigo color. Was hoping for a lighter weight shirt though. If anyone got a XL slim shirt that they wanna trade for this, lemme know. I'm looking more for sumemr shirts like their summer chambrays. I also got the Jacquard and washed it without realising it was indigo so heads up on spinning cycle. Mine got a line across the back, its not very apparant now but i think it will be so boho.

Sorry to hear that but thanks for warning me. What kind of easy cycle should I use then? And I guess shirts with indigo dye doesn't make much sense. They might look beautiful but they'll fade. It's not like I'm wearing a work shirt for the rugged look either.

I usually just choose the lowest RPM cycle (400rpm i think)and it works on my other indigo shirts, but this time I just went for normal program wich is like 1600 rpm and it did make some faint lines. Yeah Im also wondering why indigo, I was gonna use this as a "fancy" shirt for dinners etc so maybe Ill just dye it dark blue/black after it has faded some.

Debating when I want to wear it - either in the humidity ("monsoon" season in Phoenix) or this weekend when I travel up in the cooler regions of the state.

I think a navy color would've suited the shirt much better. I got a question to anyone who has had experience with their linen chambray and summer chambray. How soft are they? Gustin shirts don't fit me ideally. So I'm thinking if getting some line chambray shirts from Luxite or just their chambray. It makes more sense since they're in the same price range anyhow. What do you guys think? Especially their natural linen chambray and navy summer chambray.

matt -- are the shirt's measurements on spec to Gustin's fit guide?

matt -- are the shirt's measurements on spec to Gustin's fit guide? I'll have to measure when I get home tonight. At first glimpse, looking at the fit guide, I'd have to say yes - this shirt came in fairly close. Knowing my general sizing, this fits pretty well. I was concerned that the fabric (8.5oz denim) would end up sewing up a little tighter than size indicates. It feels pretty close.

Here's a fit pic Winterland - slim medium working out quite nicely. For 8.5 oz, it feels a little heavier. Overall, the fit is definitely trim but right in line with the fit guide. Paired up with Japanese selvedge from JCrew and Vans to keep the monochromatic going. Shinola on the wrist.

Disadvantage to wearing mostly indigo (and some black). My waxed canvas Oni bag has accumulated quite a bit of indigo. I've now got a faded smurf spot on my white denim right where my bag rests. Denim world struggles.

That's what you get for trying to go all Crockett and Tubbs in a wabisabi world.

That's what you get for trying to go all Crockett and Tubbs in a wabisabi world. I debated some pastels under the western shirt. I want to fully confuse the look today. Western+Miami Vice+skateboard = confused as f*ck. Side note, this western is gonna be a sweet fader, which is surprising for Italian denim. Just from rolling up my sleeves twice today, I'm seeing some bleed on my fingers (could I set you up any nicer for some follow-up jokes with that one??)

Do you own a white Bronco? Your best/first effort was to reference an event from 1994-95? Have you had your coffee yet today?

Gustin navy cxl boat shoes arrived yesterday. I am 10.5 in dress shoes and these fit great sockless in size 10. Color is even and rich looking. Padding in the footbed is better than my Docksides (how could it not be), and the tongue is also padded. Stamped "Made in Maine". Slightly stiff but the leather is unlined of course and already is fitting to my feet. Very pleased, good domestic made boat shoe for <200$. My eyes! Your avatar! Ahhhh!

I received my army green canvas chinos today. www.weargustin.com/store/3794I can't wear jeans to work, so I'm always on the lookout for good chinos. The Gustin slim chino cut and the Bravestar Cramerton chino are neck and neck for my favorite chinos. I also have a Gustin indigo selvedge canvas chino that is equally good.

I feel like this board has gotten a bit down and snarky toward Gustin. Although theres no need to love everything they make, I do think they are a great quality US made option. Case in point...I received my Horween briefcase today. I'm very pleased. It's a great bag. Exactly what I was looking for at a great price. My laptop, notepad portfolio, mouse, and power cord all fit nicely and are separated with the internal canvas dividers. Nice and compact. I read on SF a critique about the exposed internal rivets being a scratch risk to laptops. That is actually incorrect as you can put the laptop in the center with the canvas protecting either side. The leather strap is excellent quality. My only wish would be an external pocket for my work ID, but I can just store it inside. All around, a great compact briefcase that will serve me well for the rest of my working years. Made in USA. Under $200. Horween leather. Great all around.

It's very rare that I go a day without wearing something from Gustin, and for all their what seem to be mis-steps, I think they still offer a pretty decent value on some things. With a more tailored fit, though you're always going to have issues with things fitting properly, so if the fit just doesn't work for you, they can come across as pretty terrible. They occasionally offer jeans that I like the look of lately, but I'm overwhelmed with jeans. I can't get used to their chino fit in either slim or straight, but on the other hand their tees fit great. I'm still quite fond of my oxfords from them, but I will still judge them harshly for taking away the two-pocket too soon, especially when I catch them taking great heavy fabrics and hampering them with button-down collars. A Monster Twill in their two-pocket design, though -- alignment be damned I don't think I'd be able to resist ordering it.

I would have to agree with exophobe's sentiments. I have 8-10 shirts and 6 denim that are in somewhat regular rotation. I'm one of the few (many?) who the fit of the shirts work well with (I've been fortunate with the options I've backed). It's a solid American option. Having my duffel V1 has easily been my most traveled bag - complete with one round of shoulder strap repairs. That said, Gustin serves its purpose - a gateway drug to other higher-end options. And I think that's where the snarkiness/frustration may lie with most - Gustin has a lot of opportunities to hit homeruns with new drops. Sometimes they do, but generally, it feels like they are careless (copy and paste descriptions, questionable sizing, uninspired fabric choices). Without speaking for the group, I do think the general consensus is to see them take a few more risks - more unique fabrics, bringing back certain designs (two pocket shirt) and not limit the cool denim offerings to just aprons. What they do well they could do great with a few minor corrections. That's perhaps what's most frustrating - they have to see that opportunity.
