I go to the Pasadena YMCA - $15. We've been going there for 19 years - since we moved here. Same guys, just a little greyer. Price was less back then, but still a good deal and a fun place to go and hang.

I rock the Great Clips $19 hair cut. My hair grows very fast and i'm grateful to still have a healthy mop top (my brother started losing his in his early 20's). Anyway, I used to get my haircuts at overpriced salons many years ago but I discovered that the quality of my haircuts via a salon were no different than a cheap chain 'salon' like Great Clips. My last haircut at an expensive salon I recall paying $40 + tip to the stylist (she was the least expensive). She completely butchered my hair. I never went back to trendy/expensive salons after that experience. If someone's going to butcher my hair i'd be more cool with it if I only paid $19 versus $40. I won't set foot in a barber shop because they only seem to know one style and that's the GI Joe crew cut. I think barbers are skilled at what they do but they're not stylists. Funny--I hit Great Clips today to freshen up and go for the warm weather cut (#3 on top, #2 back and sides). There's one 1/2 block from my office. Check in online, and it's a 10 minute process door-to-door.

Its all luck of the draw. You can get a great cut at a hair salon or a barber. When you find a great person to cut your hair, hold onto them for dear life.

I go to a Korean joint and pay $25 + $5 for tip, and go once a month. Only person so far that I've been to that knows how to cut my hair exactly the way I like it.

I've been to the Haircutterys, Super Cuts, and all those chains. I've been to the local barbershops (Chinese/American/Korean), and expensive salons ($40+). No one did a job that I liked. Went to a local Korean joint on a friend's recommendation, and two years later, I haven't gone anywhere else.

My favorite barber kinda started to suck at cutting hair. Botched me a few times. My buddy started cutting hair so I used him for a while. I had a guy that gave good cuts but he was $18 pre tip. That got old quick. Went to a gangster barber shop and I kept looking like I was going to the club with 50 cent. Cut that. Then I started going to great clips. Middle aged women that never quite found a career, young girls that were promised with big money cutting hair at one of our local beauty schools. Honestly I've had 5 different woman and they all have super similar stories. High school drop out, had a kid early and couldn't do college, husband divorced. It's weird.

Man, I've been buzzing my head with my clippers for too long to remember. When I was still working, I would don a nomex hood, and helmet several times a day, and it just didn't work to mess with the hair, so I buzzed it, and haven't looked back. Not much on top anymore, so I'm pretty fast at it now.
I would say I've saved a chunk of change from doing it myself for 30 years.
Oh ya, haven't had a happy ending in over 30 years.

I'm confused? Aren't happy endings normal with haircuts? I reckon you'd get kicked the hell out of most hair-cutting places if it was commonplace for you. Happy endings are typically associated with seedy massage parlors.

Happy endings are typically associated with seedy massage parlors. Odd, what do you guys pay tip for then? Take a little off the top, buzz the sides, and receive a reacharound. Ezpz. On the real though, I was in Korea for close to three years, and the most I paid for a haircut was the equivalent of ten dollars including tip, which is unheard of there. Went to the same place for the entire stay, and had the same lady hair stylist. When I came back to America, and before finding my current hair stylist, I mused about bringing her to the States.

Really a chain?!?! Come on, real men go to a local Barber. Sit and shoot the $&@! With the guys. Talk about Local politics/sports/Denim/Women/etc Does your chain store hair cut use Hot leather shave cream and a Razor? Gotta have that.. YMMV. As I said before, I've had terrible experiences with expensive salons and barbers. A good stylist is someone who follows direction but also knows how to sculpt your hair properly. I have thick wavy hair and I think it's a pain in the @ss to maintain. I usually go with a #6 on the sides/back and about 1-1.5" off the top. I like my hair short but not military crew cut short, which is what most barbers only seem to know.

The employee turnover at the chain salons seems ridiculous. You can go in a month later and half the staff from your last cut has been replaced with new stylists. Hard to get the same person twice.

A big reason why I decided to go elsewhere. It was a crap shoot every time. The stylists aren't there usually long enough to remember the style you like or you to remember who did a good job.

I have a great barber. It's $25 for a cut, but that includes a beer/shot. Dude does a great job, clean lines, and I would definitely consider him a "stylist".

I can't believe you guys spend $1000's on clothes and get your hair cut at Great Clips, haha.
I've had the same girl cutting mine for a dozen or so years...it's $35 + tip, but I know what I'm getting every time.

And the place is epically Mayberry RFD. Now if you want to talk about sex for money, yeah, you need to break out the big bucks for the good stuff

I've gone the expensive salon route and it'll be a cold day in hell before I go back to one. I simply haven't found the right person that can cut my hair perfectly every single time, so I settle for what's avaialable to me. There's no shame in going to Great Clips.
