I think out of the 3, the Vibergs are far superior in build and looks, but as you noted are quite spendy. Take a look at these White's purchased through Baker shoes. They are cheaper than buying direct from Whites. I have a pair of Whites semi dress, and engineer boots purchased through Baker, and experienced excellent customer service. The guy to talk to at Bakers is named Kyle, and he knows the products. www.bakershoe.com/product/whites-otto-derby-shoe-dainite-sole

I was telling my wife about my shoes and told her I was looking at replacements. She told me I should buy the Vibergs as an anniversary present from her! Got shipping confirmation this morning!

False alarm. I had to cancel my order. Turns out vibergs are one size smaller than brannock and they were out of the size I needed. On the bright side they were very helpful in canceling my order so I didn’t get stuck paying for return shipping to Canada. I think I’m gonna go to a store and check out their offering. If I don’t see anything I like there, I might go with these: www.wolverine.com/US/en/1000-mile-split-toe-oxford/33074M.html?dwvar_33074M_color=W40475#cgid=heritage-mens-shoes&start=1I like the split toe. They aren’t inspired shoes or anything but they are less than a third the price of the vibergs.

I think they might be just what I’m looking for. I found another site that sells whites and they say to size down one size from you normal size for this shoe. Any thoughts or should I just talk to Kyle?

Dave, I feel like I owe you a beer or something. The White's Otto Derby is basically identical to the Viberg, but after the free shipping from Baker's Shoes and a 10% off first time customer discount, I ended up saving a total of $332.55 compared to the Vibergs! I ended up going with a size down from my usual (I'm a 13 in Red Wing, ordered a 12) based on the sizing advice from the White's website and another White's online retailer. Fortunately, Baker's has free return shipping so I'll be able to easily size up if necessary. I wonder how Baker's is able to sell White's so much cheaper than the White's website?

The reason I ask is that I have a pair of Red Wing work chukkas in 11.5, and are slightly more snug than my Whites, which are also 11.5s. I have a pair of Thorogood boots in 11.5 that fit well also. That seemed to be the benefit with me on his knowledge of how some brands fit compared to others. Bottom line is you should end up with a great fitting pair.

Funny, I've been traveling Sicily and My Wife bought me a pair of true Italian shoes.

Now those Italian shoes are nice.
Wearing steel toes for work has ruined any and all aspiration on my end to ever want to wear tall leather boots, let alone a heavy work boot, during my time off.

i realized I never followed up on the shoes. I ended up doing the sizing form from Baker’s shoes at their suggestion. They made the shoes custom and I think I got them in 4 or 5 weeks. Super happy with how they turned out.

You should like these. I've a pair of chromexcel semi-dress boots, and found them to break in easily in no time. Very comfortable leather!

They are turning into a great pair of boots.

It sounds like you’ve got some good options on your radar. The Vibergs are a high-quality choice, but if the price is a concern, the Allen Edmonds Walton offers great value and versatility for a more affordable price. The Oak Street Bootmakers Blucher is also worth considering for its solid craftsmanship, though it might be a bit more casual. For additional options, you might want to explore Loake for a blend of quality and price or check out Alden through a local retailer for their derby styles. Ultimately, it’s about finding the best balance between quality, style, and budget. I hope this helps!
