so i've looked at Gustin's size/fit guide for their selvedge jeans and was wondering if you guys could offer feedback? I normally prefer a straight fit jean but upon reviewing the size guide the straight fit cuff opening appears insanely large - I believe sizes 33-35 measure at about 18"-18.25". My Levi's 513's have a 16" cuff opening which is about right for me, but anything more than that would look bell-bottomish to my eyes. do you guys have fit pics of the straight, slim and skinny I could look at?

I wish G would provide these. You'd be hard pressed to find the same person who has all three cuts (especially with Skinny being so new). You're not going to get a good feel for it unless you see them all laid out together or all three on the same model.
The Slims are still fairly wide at the ankle opening - I like my cuff to hug my boots and the Slim is able to easily move up and down (could stand to lose about another 1/4").
Looks of the Slim vs. Skinny have been asked for and I've not seen anyone post up their comparison yet. Reddit people have been asking weekly.

I have all slim-straights in Gustin (33 slim). However, my Japan Standards fit the specifications of the 33 skinny measurements exactly. I'll try to post up comparative pics today.

Yea G just doesnt get it when it comes to the hem. To me the hem so important. Anything more than 8.5 is sloppy 2me

What size hem looks good depends on the size boot/sneaker. For me the slim works best. Took a few months to get use to the low rise, but now I'd never go back.

Yeah, the cuff opening is way too big on the Straights if you go by the fit guide. The good news is the cuff opening on all my 35's and 36's has come in anywhere from 0.25" to 1.5" smaller than spec. That latter is, IMO, where the Straights should be: right around 17" for the cuff opening, give or take half an inch. The bad news is you shouldn't be counting on the cuff coming in WAY below spec in order for it to look good. I also have one pair of 36 Slims. The cuff opening is 16", which is essentially bang on spec and also just about as small as I'd ever want to go.

38 slim. 5'11" 185lb + or - I'd fit better in a 37 but they didn't have them at the time, so these are sized up 1 on me.

Very good point re: footwear having a major impact on how the cuff opening suits you. That is really important. I don't mind the low rise on the Slims at all; in some ways it's better for me than the Straights. What keeps me out of the Slims is how tight they are in the thigh and knee. If Gustin would just give the Straights a gentle taper from knee to cuff (like a 1.5" to 2" drop, hell even 1" would be decent) instead of making them almost literally straight (0.25" to 0.5" drop in my size range), they'd be just about perfect. I cannot for the life of me understand why Gustin decided that their customers would definitely want a jean that thinks your ankle needs roughly the same amount of room as your knee. It's insane.

I can see some of the big guys with big feet (Old26 for example) or even guys who like the vintage look liking the straits. Having to size up to the 38 slims has worked out ok for me for the most part. Gives me a little bit of a strait look but tapered. The waist can get losse goosee (that's the technical term For to big). I find that the Heavy Weight belt picks up the slack a bit.

I am not understanding this trend of everyone comparing straights to bell bottoms. Did you guys all jump in a time machine and go back to 1986? Do you guys pegg your jeans too?...lol... ...being a bit dramatic here for affect. www.liketotally80s.com/2008/10/rolling-sleeves-jeans/But seriously, The straight cuff opening is perfect for me. I wear a 32 straight in G and wear a size 11-12 shoe fwiw.

When I found raw and selvedge about 6 or 7 years ago, the tapered look hadn't really made its way into the cuts yet. It was straight and skinny. The straights for the most part really were straight - from the knee down to the ankle, all one diameter. I took a few pairs of Evisus out of my closet a couple weeks back and had to ask myself what I was thinking. They were damn near Jncos.

I wear a 35 or 36 Straight in G and I'm a size 10-11 shoe. Yes, I have stupidly small feet for someone who's 6'4". Makes me very tippy.

I am 5'9 and around 155-160 lbs and here are a couple pictures I posted a little while ago of the 32 Slim Heavyweights. I love the fit on these. I have had straights before and the leg opening was huge on my frame. Also the leg opening works really well even with boots if it comes in at the specified 7.5"

I measured two - my Italian Blues (thanks Ickes) vs. the Japan Standards - both are 33 slim. The JS measure barely 7.25" at the cuff opening (closer to 7 1/8"), the IBs measure 7.5". Pictures done quickly, but you can see the difference just with the JS on top of the Italian Blues. The measurements of my Japan Standards are in line with the skinny fit and the fit didn't exist when I originally received these. I'm not complaining at all - I tend to gravitate towards my JS, even with boots. It's probably as "skinny" as I'll go without looking painted on. If I up my leg routine, I may have to retire these. thanks for the pics guys. I measured my jeans and the Levi's cuffs measure at 8" and the Uniqlo's come in at 8.25". With so many variances in Gustin's cuff sizing I don't know that i'd be willing to try their denim out yet. Anything beyond 8.25" is way too big for me. guess i'm looking for consistency

Agreed. Anything over 8 is too much and I have to start thinking about the added cost of tapering them.

8-8.5in hem just looks perfect cuffed or even when them are hemmed to just hit the boot. Anything 9 inches & above looks like u have a damn hoolahoop inside your hem. A good hem to me is like having a allstar 6th man on ur team
