I saw it too and want to try it but I'm not sure if their last is wide enough for me. But they do offer 120% back return, so doesn't hurt.

I just bought a pair of the double monk straps but won't get them until December. They told me to go with the size I normally go with so I did and with the 120% return policy, it's worth the risk

Sort of depends what formal means to you, but that color wouldn't traditionally be considered appropriate for formal wear -- though dark brown wouldn't be either. You probably just mean "nicer outfits" and I'm just being pedantic. Edit: but i do think they look pretty good.

I wear tan with suits all of the time and they also look good with chinos. I bought the monks in dark brown because they look good with blue and grey suits and I don't wear tan in the winter - if anyone cares to know my line of thinking

No tuxes or black tie events so thats about as dressy as it 'rarely' gets.

I didn't mean to imply that it's not a great look, only that it's not "formal", hence the exposure of my pedantry.

To me, black shoes are more formal

Black's pretty much the definition of formal, but dark brown and #8 both work fine. As noted, nothing wrong with lighter colors and a suit, it just has a little more casual feel to it. But it's really all about what you're comfortable with.
