There didn't appear to be a Rising Sun thread, and seeing as they are my favorite brand- the one that really got me into raw selvedge denim in the first place, I thought I'd let this be my first thread contribution to the forum!
Rising Sun is a bit past it's hay day right now, Mike Hodis, the brain behind the brand, has had a bit of friction with the financial backer of the company, and they have both sorta decided to stay out of it. It has since moved locations from Eagle Rock, CA and setup shop in the Orange/Irvine area, where the clothing is still being made to the same great standards, and new items are even being added that really feel like they belong to the line.
Allan and Khue, who have been involved with the company since forever, have basically taken the reins and production is still in full swing. They mostly sell to Asian markets, primarily Japan and Thailand, but they welcome people to their workshop openly, and still sell direct online as well.
The company is heritage in nature, a lot of the clothing tends to incorporate early american work wear into it's styling, but they also have some modernized cuts in their denim, my favorite pair being the straight razor, which is a slim cut, with rear pocket gussets. Although my style is definitely a bit more modern than the average Rising Sun fan, I really love incorporating their pieces into my every day wardrobe which is a mix of Gustin, Naked & Famous, Woolrich John Rich & Bros, and LVC.
My favorite most recent acquisitions were two of their ranch hand jackets, I've been wanting one in brown duck since forever, but when I saw the new navy model with tonal stitching, I fell in love with it and it's instantly become my favorite piece of outerwear!
Anyone else have any rising sun pieces?
