Less American fits than, say, the Gap (where a Medium is quickly encroaching on an international XL), cheaply made in China. I have a couple shirts from them, and would say they fit slightly more generous than Gustin on a size-to-size comparison. They're like the IKEA of clothing.

Or are they one season wear and then toss/donate type of clothes?

I have several pairs of selvedge denim from Uniqlo, so can't comment on their other clothing. surprisingly enough, they've held up fairly well and I beat the crap out of them. but, they're my beater jeans that get put through the ringer. the only other article of clothing i've purchased from Uniqlo were socks for my son.

for the money it's hard to go wrong with Uniqlo when it comes to basics. i have a few flannels from them and they've held up well and are very soft.
...the IKEA of clothing comment is close to spot on. they're considered to be the Japanese GAP with higher quality production.

No experience, but when I see a flannel for $20 bucks, I can pretty much know what to expect in material, and fit, but sometimes these things can work. Not too long ago, I stopped by Fred Meyer to pick up a few items, and parked on the other end of the store from the market section. As I walked by the men's dept, I happened to see flannels on sale. Not really sure what made me take a look, but ended up buying a nice patterned flannel, in something l'd guess around 7-8 ounces, and it fit really well, and it didn't shrink when washed, and air dried. A great beater that you never have to worry about messing up, so there you go.

Uniqlo is my go-to for their heattech gear in the winter and airism undershirts and underwear in summer
