A while back I received the Gustin Japan Supima Cottons, seen here: www.weargustin.com/store/1548You can't tell from the swatches, but these jeans are super shiny. I imagine that the silk jeans, which I've never seen in person, are similar. They just have this sort of shiny sheen to them that I absolutely hate. Has anyone seen jeans like these before? I'm sure some people probably prefer the shine. They'd probably be good for going to clubs, but I'm well passed that age. Is there some way to get the shine out? I've never washed them, never even worn them and I'm sad they're just sitting in my closet. I wanted something nice for the summer, and now the summer is over and I've never worn them. Debating putting them up for sale, unless a wash would get the shine out. I was looking for something that would fade nicely, which is what they show in the swatches, but I can't wear shiny jeans every day to break them in.

I've got a pair of the N&F copper/indigo jeans that are glittery. I bought them cuz they were only $69, but now I'm having a hard time imagining ever needing to wear them. I'm a sucker for good deals, unfortunately I should've saved myself $69 and not bought them

First try to sell them (which brings up a good question, What value is a pair of used/unworn jeans?) If there's no buyer, Wash them. If you still dont like them, wash them some more. I'd wash them till they were a totally different looking pair.

I'd wash them till they were a totally different looking pair. That's what I'm doing with my Pima Fires. They're pretty soft, so I figure all I need to do is induce some fading and the streaky-ness will be less apparent.

And by wash them, I mean hand wash first (No dryer), if they still didn't look right then throw them in the washer (just try to get them out before the spin cycle).

That's what I'm doing with my Heavy Americans. To me they were just kind of boring. So I beat on them and throw them in every dark load.

I own both the grey silk and the summer supima. The grey silk struck me as having far more sheen... To the point that it kept me from wearing them. After a few wears, the sheen did due to the point where I no longer think about it.
The supimas are being hemmed so I can't do a side by side comparison. I still say that I have The Hemp and Super Heavy Slub coming to a classified board near you soon. Their luck just never grew on me. To each their own.

You don't know shiny unless you've seen the Japan Shine (search this forum for my previous posts about these). More than likely the sheen you're experiencing is the finish of the fabric, which will be worked out with subsequent wears, given that you're not seeing the shine of a poly blend or anything (so long as they're 100% cotton). You can likely beat them up and get rid of the sheen, but my experience with indigo is that it starts to get a waxy look as it wears in, which can be a different sort of sheen. Based on my experience with the cone Pima fire, it's likely a wash will take out a it of that sheen and get your fades started. If they're tight in the waist id stick with a cold wash, and be careful if you're tall enough to have inseam concerns. If you've never washed raw denim, please seek out tips before you throw them in the machine, but I don't remember what you've shared.

They're not tight and the inseam is still long. I'm not worried about shrink, so I treat them badly from a raw perspective. I don't do that to other pairs of raws, but these? These I'll make an exception for.

I still want to know what people were thinking backing the Shine. Polyester jeans and cotton.
Now if that wasn't left over fabric I don't know what was.

So the consensus is I should wash these now? They just look like "fancy" jeans, so beating them in would be tough. I feel like I can't wear these just out and about, like I have to go someplace fancy at night to wear them. I like my jeans manly and rugged. I'm never buying any gustin products without seeing full product photos anymore. Second time I've been burned by a fabric I thought would look great.
I can't find anyone online with pictures of Japan Supima's either. Really curious if they will be good faders as Gustin kind of made a big deal about it in the description, which is why I bought them.

dang, if they were 34 slim, I'd offer to buy them from you. Are you in the market to buy some 33 slim denims?

I've had a few pairs come with a sheen, and a few soaks cleared it up each time. I think it's a combination of weave and starch.

I soaked them and they seem a bit better now. I actually like them a lot. Need to beat them in to see how they fade
