Does anyone here have familiarity with this brand? I was out shopping today and saw this jacket in tan/natural leather, for $500ish

I don't have first hand experience with their jackets, but I do know that it is a long running, well established, and well respected company. By all accounts they make a very good product. You could also check out Vanson leathers. Their website is pretty rough because they are pretty old school and are busier making jackets for motorcycle riders than they are selling them over the interwebs. Another good resources: www.thurston-bros.com/PS $500ish for a Schott seems like a good price.

I have a pea coat by schott. Really warm and heavy for WI winters. No experience with their leathers but I have no complaints. Also, not all of their things are made in USA iirc if that's something you're looking for.

I have been searching for a wool coat for sometime and have a difficult time with sizing. I had looked at Schott a few times, really like the tweed Car coat and the wool officers trench with no epaulets. WEll I just noticed that there is a link where you can request a custom of any pattern they have in stock. Now I'm looking at a camel officers coat! www.schottnyc.com/products/wool-trenchcoat.htm?catID=9The custom form: www.schottnyc.com/customsizing.cfm

Disclaimer: I am not into leathers, cant remember the last time I owned one and I do not ride. The horsehide I would not wear unless I actually rode. To me, the cut of the oiled jacket looks more useful for everyday non riding wear.

I really like the oiled jacket as well. I don't have a bike right now but I have in the past and have been wanting to get another bike down the road. I might just get the oiled jacket now then if I get a bike it will help justify buying the black one to the wife...lol
