Only found this forum a few days ago and have already found a fair few new brands I was previously oblivious too; but have a bit of an unusual question. I'm far from a connoisseur but have owned a dozen or odd pairs of selvedge denim varying from 12 oz to 16.5 oz; the problem I have with all of these, barring one pair, is that they irritate the hairs on my legs like crazy and give me numerous unsightly red bumps. Chinos or regular trousers are fine on the other hand. I owned a pair by a brand called Indigofera marketed as 'blanket denim' which were extremely soft and didn't cause me any problems; unfortunately I grew out of them a year or so back. Can anyone suggest anything that is a bit softer? I tend not to soak denim initially though I know it'd help in the long run. So far the only thing I've found is by Naked & Famous- and it's a bit too heavy for summer and I'm not really too big a fan of the brand anyway. Saw Gustin did have a couple of pairs but the funding has been and gone.
Thanks!

Saw Gustin did have a couple of pairs but the funding has been and gone. Thanks! I'm almost wondering if you have an allergy to starch or the dye on the jeans. Once they've been washed or soaked a couple times does it get better? The ~12oz Italian denim that Gustin sells tends to get really soft even after the first wash, in my experience. Indigofera is some pretty expensive stuff, I don't know enough about them to give you any ideas as to what they use as far as denim mills, but some here might be able to. Also, if you still have them, some pictures might help in identifying it (which could get you close, but if they have it custom made for them you won't find another maker using it). Is there a reason you're not looking into another pair of Indigofera? I did find an article on Indigofera that states the following: What really sets Indigofera apart, keeping true to the quality first approach, is that Indigofera actually creates their own fabric weaves. This means that they rarely buy “off-the-shelf” fabrics or washes but instead work with top weavers to create a special unique and signature denim fabric. Taking this rare approach, Indigofera is able to stand behind the quality of their products and offer jeans that will take on a personality as unique as the wearer.

Welcome, bruns! Glad you found us and we hope you have some fun here - and learn something. Might as well hide your wallet now - it's that bad. And don't listen to anything ickes says - he'll have you broke in 90 days...

It might be worth trying a longer fiber denim, usually identified as African or Zimbabwe cotton. I wash starchy jeans, I hate the feel and it tends to give them a softer hand right away.
Japan Blue has a number of African and Zimbabwe options and they're cheaper than usual right now because of the strong dollar to the Yen. There are plenty of other fantastic brands that use Zimb cotton, I just mentioned JB because they're close to Gustin prices. You can check Rakuten, Denimio or Okayama Denim. Blue Owl has them too, but they're in the US so their prices aren't as low.

Thanks for the replies; haven't got my head around how to quote so bear with me! exophobe I managed to snag this pair from Cultizm for around the $50 mark; took a punt on them being overly vanity sized (only a 28 waist left) and managed to get lucky. They're since long gone unfortunately; from what I remember this is the pair though: www.denimheads.cz/shop/detail/18/38/Indigofera#.VXmp6_mqpBc . I'll check out Gustin next time they have some Italian denim though, thanks! @untucked Same here really. Tightness is definitely a factor. Old26 Thanks! If there's one thing I've learned so far it was that everyone seemingly got very excited and then very disappointed by LD&Co (keep going back and forth in my head about ordering a pair of RTW from them). Already planning on some new stuff come payday! bentin Great- thanks! I've been tempted by Denimio a few times, will definitely give them a shot. I used to order Real McCoy's stuff from Raktuen but they've seemingly clamped down a bit now. Okayama Denim looks great as well.

I know it's 100% the tightness in my case, not that any of my jeans are even tight lol. I get the little red bumps right front and center on my thighs only. Nowhere else.

The Zimbs, currently funding on G, are pretty soft. May be worth trying.
