Can anyone recommend a good all leather briefcase or messenger bag for a laptop? I like the style whiskey river posted, but want all leather. The guy from Corter Leather has a new venture launching called Albatross Brands that will have a leather "postal" bag for $239. There's pictures on IG.

That Corter bag is nice, but not what I'm looking for. Plus, there is zero information about it. Itd be helpful to have measurements.
I backed the Classic Satchel from K&H and I'm stoked about it.

I have a Swiss Army cordura bag for carrying my laptop computer and misc work items for everyday use. I needed something a little bigger for out of town trips to fit the computer and items need for overnight stays etc. Something that would fit as carry on that I could keep under the seat in front of me. I had wanted something with some leather on it and found a good deal on this Duluth Pack Traveler's Portfolio bag. It is the perfect size and I found it in black. Love black. I like that the bottom is covered in leather as that area always gets abused. It has a few inside pockets and a zippered area. I do wish it had one outside pocket for quick access but that is the only complaint. It does have a moose on the logo though.

Just thought I'd give another option. Mitchell Leather is at the top of my list. Pricey, but beautiful.

Getting pretty irritated with Kendal and Hyde. Delivery of the satchel was supposed to be before Christmas. It is now February 23rd and still no shipment. They say they are shipping bags, but cannot tell me specifically when mine will ship.
It has been over 6 months since I pre ordered.

Didn't they have some leather supply problems that backed everything up?

This thing just keeps getting better looking. The canvas has smoothed out and now has a gloss and almost has a leather like look/feel. It gets complimented a lot. For those that are budget minded, I recommend the option I took. Fresh-waxed/oiled: Now:

Looks nice, reminds me of the Vermilyea Pelle I keep trying to convince myself I want instead of the Filson.

The quality of the canvas is great, and the leather and construction is shockingly good for the price. I replaced the strap with one from an Etsy store.

Looks nice, reminds me of the Vermilyea Pelle I keep trying to convince myself I want instead of the Filson. It's basically another Filson rip off. Though I've only heard great things about his work. Coincidentally, my buddies started a company called Pack Animal and bought their sewing machines from him to get started.

Coincidentally, my buddies started a company called Pack Animal and bought their sewing machines from him to get started. It is a Filson copy, but it has a lined bottom, unlike the Filson, which is the primary reason I haven't just bought the original. I have no doubt this bag is based on the Filson, but is that a bad thing? Subtle things like the placement of the handle straps on the outside of the magazine pocket and the heavier strap are things that I would consider superior to the original (and the lined bottom). In the list of things I wish would have been copied, it'd be nice if it had a storm flap to offer something in the way of protection from rain getting in the bag. In the end, what you're looking (and paying) for is the workmanship and possibly the story, and this bag has a better story and looks impeccable compared to the produced-in-huge-numbers Filson. The one thing I continue to be surprised by, though, is the complaints around here of one brand ripping off another. When it gets down to brass tacks, the way this whole thing works is someone buys a filson or whatever, then the strap rips off, so they fix it, and eventually get fed up and make their own (either out of necessity or lack of warranty awareness). Believe me, once you design these things completely from scratch, and don't follow well established guidelines, it doesn't take many iterations before you end up with something pretty similar to the classic design of a filson, or if you're on the technical fabric side doing messengers, something like an original Chrome bag, despite even the best intentions. It's the small design features where one guy said "I like this better so I'm going to do it this way" that put a designer signature on it. When they work, the results are great and have their place, when they don't, they get iterated out.

Plus, regular price it costs less than the Filson.

Plus, regular price it costs less than the Filson. Absolutely. And agree about your other points, especially the storm flap. One of the more annoying things about my current Jack Spade. Well that, the made in China thing, the failed shoulder strap mount, the cheap leather straps and I'm sure another thing or two.

Don't need one so could never justify purchasing one but they sure are purty. As an aside, I've read rumblings over on SF that the quality of Filson's bags aren't what they used to be and that they've made some of their bags smaller and are charging more.I don't own any of their bags so can't verify these claims but I wouldn't exactly be surprised either.

The guy from Corter Leather has a new venture launching called Albatross Brands that will have a leather "postal" bag for $239. There's pictures on IG. Actually, it's a Kickstarter and its live: So I actually backed one of the levels of the Albatross kickstarter. The experience was less than optimal, communication wasn't too good through KS, they wanted to do everything over email. I actually got the postal bag, so here are some pictures I took. I hadn't done anything to the leather except use it until this weekend when I hit it with some Obenauf's. Uncalibrated width: Uncalibrated height: Sort of can see the color change where the flap was: Rough out interior pocket: Main compartment: Lack of pen slots, etc makes it less useful than I'd hoped. The post-Christmas shipping blew my plans on handing out hand-made leather goods as presents. Such is Kickstarter.

variable thanks for the pics. I ended up only backing Albatross enough to get a belt (its a fine belt for what I paid, no complaints) because I didn't really need a leather messenger bag and still don't.

Yeah, I didn't really need it either. The strap kinda sucks and the lack of internal organization makes it a tepid bag at best.
