That is one thing I never understood about my fellow New Englanders: the inexorable run on bread and milk ahead of a blizzard. Like, okay, so we might lose power for a day or two. Who the f!@k sits around eating bread when it's freezing cold? Get out the camp stove and make some damn soup. It's all from the blizzard of '78. Institutional memory, and all that. How bad the storm is supposed to be is measured on the French Toast Index. BTW, it was -6F this morning. And we're getting more snow, soon.

Yeah, my folks used to reference that storm often when I was growing up. They were living in Syracuse at the time, I believe, and it was pretty bad there as well. For a long time I thought I had been conceived during the Blizzard of '78, but then I got a little older and learned how gestation worked. Did the math, and it didn't quite add up. Pretty sure the magic happened on their anniversary, which is in June. I love that some enterprising persons have taken it upon themselves to set up a French Toast Alert System account on the twitters. My mom texted me this morning that it was -2F up there. The snowbanks in their driveway from the plowing are 6-7 feet high.

Blizzard Of 78!!! I was 9. I shoveled all week strait (and delivered 100 papers) was out till 10 a nite by myself. In the first week I made $210 (I remember because that's how much an Atari game cost). Made more money then my old man did that week.
We also had an ice storm around here a few years back, where we lost power for 13 days. Inside of our house got down to 35 degrees. No cooking, hot water, heat...

Funny thing, you need about 5-8 gallons of gas to run a generator for a day. So for 13 days I'd need almost 100 gallons. If there's no power for the gas stations, we're screwed.

On Tuesday, it was mochi (pounded sweet rice) day here in Japan. In Okinawa, they take the mochi and wrap it in the leaf of the Shell Ginger plant (locally known as "getto") and then steam it. In preparation for mochi day, some of the office ladies and I were outside on the second floor patio wrapping the mochi in the leaves while wearing short sleeve shirts...living the dream! It was so nice out. They told me I had to wear the traditional mochi making outfit...so I bought one and then...I was the only one wearing that traditional outfit (apron and headcovering) Tuesday night, I was puking my guts out...but that was a completely unrelated story. There is some horrible bug going around here. I am better now.

More snow late tonight into Monday. Weather people seem confused on what we will really get. What a waste of a job. Weather should be dumbed down.

I want a picture of you on the beach in swim trunks, flip-flops and that lawless shirt...Thanks in advance for your cooperation, sir. and if you can wrangle up some curvy broads in bikinis, get them in the picture, too.

It hit 65 degrees here in the DC area yesterday. Reality is about to hit soon, but enjoyed the nice weather while it lasted.

it warmed up here to just over 40 degrees on saturday...starting a melt of the 3ft of snow on the ground...followed by a light mist all day sunday...and then a cold snap turning all solid surfaces into sheets of ice.
