Added another teaser of the man tote, man purse, satchel whatever you want to call it. The IG comments are funny.
What do you guys think of this item? Do guys in San Fransisco wear these a lot? Are they aimed at a completely different market different customer base?
Personally I wouldn't use one for the life of me. I have a beach bag and that is the closest thing to a tote I've have ever used.

Totes have their purpose. I have a bag that I can fold open into a tote and often have a canvas tote along with me. They're handy for stops into the grocery or local markets... especially when you're tooling around on foot or public transport most of the time. That said I wouldn't pay a premium for a leather tote, but I also don't understand why people go out of their way to specifically state that they would never use one.

I bought a large heavy duty RRL canvas one and use it with pride, particularly as a second carry-on piece, but then I use satchels every day for work and just seem to like bags.

Guys in Asia loved tote bags couple years back. I didn't see it as much this year when i went back. I can see it if you carry certain style especailly more feminine in either petite or long & skinny. I do like the style but I am just too old/big for it.

I take lightweight canvasy type bags to the grocery store to carry out my supplies. The wife picked them up, and likes not using paper bags. I am used to them now, and have said someone should make these reasonally priced, and more heavy duty, as my cheap ones start tearing at the seams, and don't hold up. The Gustin version would work for what I would use it for, but since I need 6-8 of them, it ain't going to happen at their price. Would probably last a lifetime though.

Lawless has the same thing for $85 now. Maybe you can buy two or three?

I don't understand the Totes myself. If I go to a grocery store or market I use grocery bags.
I believe the Lawless totes are made for women.

My wife got hold of the non disposal bags, as she is into recycling, keeping the environment healthy, etc. and started using her bags as it was not worth arguing about. I just figured that if I were using these cheaply made flimsy bags, why not have a heavier canvas type. I just don't want to spend 60-150 bucks for bags I only use grocery shopping. 90% of the time, she does the shopping anyway, so really not worth it, and if I ever end up stopping at the store, its paper baby.

We've bought dozens of those damn bags. They almost always get forgotten and I'm done buying/using those. AS for using a $200 leather bag for groceries - no way in hell. Don't know about you, but a number of times I've had broken items in a bag due to it hitting the ground, etc. and I don't want a $200 bag with mayo all over it. Besides, that bag is no way in hell ever going to be part of my style. Not in this lifetime...

I just use plastic grocery bags then throw them in the recycle bin when I'm done with them. I guess I figure I'm being environmentally friendly by doing that.

Figured it out. It's to store my field notes, scarf and city coat. Along with a bottle of wine.

I have a messenger bag/briefcase but couldn't see myself carrying this thing. I wouldn't get all judgey or call you guys ladies for buying one, though. It's a damn fine and manly looking purse as far as purses go.

This is not rock and roll.
Im trying to sneak out if this style is good for my wife, if so, I might get the LD veg. tanned one. The price of the Gustin puts it too close to local competitors. imho.

This is literally exactly what I did yesterday. My wife (great lover of LARGE purses) showed me the Gustin bag (it does look nice) and I immediately hopped on LD and found the veg tan option. She liked it so we ordered it. $96.xx after shipping and she's happy.

My wife doesn't buy any bags without some type of brand new associated with it.... they are not bad but I don't feel they worth the price.

Ha.... no. My wife actually is much better nowaday compared to when I met her. After we have two kids, we really stick with "classic" than "fashionable" items. I still have couple jackets that I paid over $800 back 15 years ago sitting in my closet. I had sold many of them but there are couple that just totally out of style. I feel kinda sad to just throw them away... The cutting and fabric are just too nice but they do look weird.

Jacket collection I just ripped through selling a bunch. Actually made money too which is odd.

Shockingly, looks like the man-bag has stalled cold. Not sure what the hell they were thinking on that one...

I think that if they made a messenger bag or something more on the manly side, it would sell like crazy - the leather looks great. And, since they don't post up numbers, they coulda sold 10 of 'em for all we know. We've all speculated about that before, so we have no idea what the #'s are on those campaigns...which of course is probably by design.

Messenger bag will be too much work and details.

Really? Most of the complaints have revolved around them not sticking to the classics, or over working things (city coat & cpo for example). Which items are you referring to that are simplified from a classic design?

It's great to simplify things, but to ruin them is another story. And I think the CPO went the opposite of simple with all those pockets. Dunno, I can only say that the latest non-denim offerings have jumped the shark with "me". I am open to different styles, but so many of those new items look like fashion school rejects. Guess that's just me and my old brain...
