Question on Railcar's denim services (and in the interest of suppressing the other topic that showed up this morning) - has anyone done their tapering service? How is it? I've got a pair or two that I'm considering sending off - is it worth the value? Should I inquire if Manny would be willing to do this instead? I can't say personally but from everything I have read people have had nothing but good things to say about their tapering services.

Ha, forgot the pomade. Just a curious consistency of denim purveyors to always branch out to shirts. Maybe it's not always a good thing or a necessity. Gustin, N&F and many others seem to be very challenged at making a decent shirt, but have jeans down solid.

Manny tapered my Kevlar lined riding jeans a couple of months ago and did a pretty good job I would say. The hem was about 10in"and he brought it down to a respectable 8.5" and fixed the knee areas. I think they fit a lot a better now and since Manny close by you can just drop and pick it up. He has been tapering all of my jeans I buy from him as well and making my hem for his regular fit with an 8" +/- 0.25" opening. No comment on railcar as I don't own or have used their tapering services.

well shit, frustrated with Railcar again. Ordered a pair of the Spike x027 in a size 34 and they came in way out of spec on a few measurements. I am swimming in the waist on these ones. Great summer fabric and nice pair of jeans but damn, in regards to their sizing I am not seeing this attention to detail that is talked about at all. I'll be putting these up for sale here for what I paid for them as I can't return them because I bought them on sale at Premiershop.
Actual Measurements
Waist: 18.25" Thigh at Crotch: 13.25" Knee 13" down from crotch: 9" Hem: 7.5" Front Rise: 11.75" Back Rise: 15"
Hopefully these work out for someone because they are a really nice 13oz Japanese fabric and I would honestly love to have a pair that fit me. I might try again on a size 33 with Railcar. I'll post up in the For Sale thread. I'll be asking 150 shipping included, basically just trying to get what I paid for them.

that sucks. what makes this troubling is that they're a small operation and do everything in-house.

Maybe they sew Gustin's shirts?

Maybe they sew Gustin's shirts? or they employ the same blind seamstress that G uses to sew their jeans and shirts

does anyone know if the Railcar x016 is the same fabric as the Gustin Heavy American? Does anyone know if any other brands use the Heavy American fabric? I would like to find it from a different maker.

Wait, $400?! I'd buy my 22oz unsanforized Oni and a pair of what looks like the same denim from Ciano (which I think is what G had) for that kind of scrilla.

Hmmmmm............. Hey, IH Cheerleader posted them, I just provided the pics. And I love expensive stuff, just not paying another country's VAT when that's not the way any other business does it. I'd add the UK letters to my hatred, but the kibosh on IH Rakuten sales takes care of that for me. Screw the whole brand.

Well I think you should buy a pair.

Ha. I like a lot of their materials. At Rakuten prices it's a good deal. Even at UK prices less VAT, they'd be reasonably competitive. A US vendor buying directly from Haraki and selling with only a US import fee would be ideal and probably help grow the brand. But I don't guess that's the goal. Bringing it back around, I want to love Railcar, but between ickes run around with the black jeans and the kerfuffle over last year's flannel, I'm not seeing it.

It was a bit of a run around with their black jeans but after the dust has settled I have to say that they are one of my favorite pairs I own. The fit ended up working out great especially after two washes. I'm with you though, I want to love Railcar but I just don't think they are quite there yet. I have also noticed that their Indigo pairs have tonal stitching running down the inseam which kind of bothers me.

Has anyone used their waist sizing service? They say on their website they can reduce the waistband by up to two inches without affecting the rest of the top block, using the original waistband, with no darts. How can this be achieved?
I have a pair of PBJs that are perfect in all respects except the waist, which didn't shrink as much as I thought it would, and could easily lose 1" to 1 1/2", but I'm wondering if it's worth the risk....

Or another waist sizing service? Or is it best just to cut my losses early and try to resell these?
