I'm surprised there's not a thread for these already, but I'm thinking about getting a pair of CDBs for spring and was wondering if there are any CDB aficionados here.
First off, I just realized that most desert boots that I've seen for sale at bargain shoe wearhouses, nordstrom rack, and the clark's outlet are NOT desert boots, they are something called the Bushacre 2, which apparently are identical in shape, but tend to use thinner leather and rubber soles instead of crepe.
So, apparently, the Clarks Original Desert Boot is what I'm looking for--i found exactly 1 pair at the rack yesterday amongst a sea of bushacres and noticed that the suede was significantly thicker and nicer than the bushacres, but unfortunately they weren't my size.
I'm looking for a lighter color suede, and am wondering if anybody knows what the traditional light suede desert boot color is . . . they have the following light suede colors: Sand, Wolf, Maple, Oakwood, and Taupe. Which one of these is the "classic" CDB suede color? I'm thinking it might be either sand or taupe, but I'm not sure.
Also, what's the indigo transfer situation with these? Will they end up looking like crap in a week? Should I just go with the traditional beeswax instead?
Any help would be appreciated.

I have three pairs, black, beige and wine, and being a boot snob, I normally never buy anything as cheap, but these are good in a disposable sort of way.
I wear them on my 5 mile walk to work, as I don't want to ruin better boots, but I always wear thin insoles as there's no padding whatsoever.
I can't tell you the definitive classic colour, as the names seem to change from year to year, but the colours are much the same.
I'd recommend them as a good cheap buy, as they look quite good, but don't wear them in rain, if at all possible
As for indigo transfer, the light colours will show, so maybe get darker for indigo.

Just checked the colours. I have Wolf, which is pretty light in a sandy, beigey way. I'd have said it's as close to the classic look at you could get, but Oakwood or Sand would also work. Maple's not in the current range and Taupe isn't the right shade, but you'll know what you like best.
There's no "right" shade for these boots, though, and once you get one, you'll probably buy more anyway.
They're a great boot for warm weather, as they're quite smart and very light, and I'll be wearing a pair on my trip to the US in July.

Pretty sure we have the same taste in footwear. Thinking about going with the sand . . . the Clark's website has them for $90 + 15% off, which seems like a great price.

Sand will be fine. I think that's their lightest colour, so best to wear in dry, clean conditions.
I paid about $150 each for my first two, and about $85 for the wine in a recent sale, so your price sounds great. I'd definitely buy two pairs at that price.

If you're worried about indigo transfer, stay the hell away from suede boots, or at least keep your suede boots the hell away from anything indigo. They'll pick it up faster than a smooth leather (which is already alarmingly quick) and it's even more impossible to clean off. I guess you could get one classic and one bushacre, and use the bushacre for indigo, the classic for everything not indigo.

Pretty much all I wore after graduating college until my early 30's. Not much better than a flip flop for foot support, but a lot more civilized. I guess that's why I wear flip flops now.
Suede will show plenty of transfer, but that's not necessarily bad. After a year or more of wear they'll look beat to hell even with frequent brushings. Part of the charm.

I have plenty of nice boots . . . I'm essentially looking for a sneaker (or flip-flop) in boot format. I do quite a bit flying out in the am and returning in the pm (or the next day) trips with no luggage, and sometimes wearing a pair of heavy boots on a plane can be a chore.

Then the desert boots will be the perfect buy, as you simply can't get lighter or easier to take on and off, plus they do look pretty smart. I'd definitely recommend a thin leather insole, though, as I find that makes quite a difference.

plus they do look pretty smart. Ah, but will they make me look smarter once I get to my meeting? That's the question.

Interesting. I didn't know that. Just assumed it had to do with your annoyingly good basketball team. Well, there's that, too, but it's funny, there is a legitimate hatred back and forth that dates back to the civil war, especially among the older folks. Their goal was to kill every single male resident in Lawrence as well as burn the entire town down, and I'm guessing it takes more than a generation or two before people forgive/forget.

My wife cusses your bumper stickers, but so far has pulled up short of actual homicide. I'll keep an eye on her.

FTR, although I am a native Kansan, I'm usually too embarrassed by my home state to admit it.
However, I am proud of the fact that A) I attended KU (Lawrence is a wonderful place), and B) I no longer live in a state where people are horrified that their children might learn about evolution in public school.

I love them. One day I'll buy another pair. I had the wallabee in beeswax and the low top (oxford) buscarce and like them too.
I want to buy the desert boot in the classic sand color or beeswax for work when I go plain clothes.

I ended up going with the sand suede. On sale for 89.99 minus 20%, or net $71.99 directly from Clarks USA.

They are simply classic. I have two pairs, myself, the beeswax, and the dark green. I can never quite decide whether they look better untouched and beat-up, or with a little cleaning for shine.

When I dig one of my pairs out of the closet, I always feel like "why don't I wear them more often?". They're great. Easy to get on/off. Comfy. Look good. Inexpensive.
