How do you like the Crosby? I thought about ordering one of those as their other fit just seems absurd. I particularly don't like how there is barely a breast so the top of the torso's look like 1/3 shirt. As expected with Crosby, they're bigger in the chest, waist, and shoulders, while being the same length in body and arms, which is perfect for me. I'm not slim by any means.

Could use some input on suit styling. I've revamped my work wear over the past few years. Got rid of the Carhartt look and now wearing a modern vintage styles/details (triple needle stitching, chain stitch runoff, with old school fabrics wabash, hickory stripe, HBT, chambray, etc). Now would like to revamp my suits.
My question - how can I get or what am I looking for to get a modern take on old school suiting? What era (30,40,50's, Dust bowl, greatest generation?) What style? What fabrics (Tweed, seersucker,cotton/linen) And so on. And better yet, how can I get it on a budget? Is thrifting the way to go?

I feel the old suit styles from the golden age really look like costumes. I really think a grey and navy with medium lapels, tailored but not tight. Not chopped in the tail, decent rise and you are good to go.

brentkuz I wear them at times for court but mostly Church (yes I'm a bible thumper). I definitely don't want a costume look. But I'm tired of wearing a blue, gray, brown worsted wool suit. Been wearing that for 40 years. So I guess it's more of a change of fabric that id like and where to find that. TJMaxx, JCPenny, Macy's, BR, JCrew, the local suit shop..... All the Same stuff.

I always felt wearing a tailored suit wasn't about standing out it was more about being subtle and refined.
Tweed, flannel and wool are both great for winter
Linen cotton and tropical wool are great for summer.
Patterns I like pinstripe and glen plaid. I like bold chalk stripes but don't have one.

It hard to explain but I'd like to look not so refined or businessman like. A suit that has that stuffy edge taken off. I'm thinking that a fabric with some texture would help. And also give me a winter (tweed, camel hair) and summer (cotton, linen) wardrobe.

I love seeing someone dressed up in vintage suits. I see quite a few being worn around Minneapolis areas at certain bars, also weddings, events and casual. Musicians also. Of course modern suits look great too. They all show someone took the time to look good. The opposite of sweatpants at Walmart.

Stay away from Brooks 346 line. Fused and over priced. Edited: 100% that outlet brooks brothers 346 line is garbage. They are all over thrift shops.

Stay away from Brooks 1818 line. Fused and over priced. I think it's the 346 line that is fused.

Are suit supply suits fused or canvas? I want navy birds eye notch lapel slightly slim fit. JCREW doesn't seem to have that.

Their entry stuff is fused, with the option of half and their nicer stuff is half with the option of full. You are correct that BB 1818 is half and 346 is fused.

Worth mentioning that STP sells US made Hickey Freeman on the cheap, if you'd like to avoid the dodgy labor factor of SS and BB.

No mention of fused suits. Most people don't come out and say 'we fuse!' Their cheaper, Sevila line is fused, which after their talk about canvassjng rubbed some folks the wrong way. Not a fan, regardless, but they do offer a decent value if the cuts work.

That SuitSupply suits are at the very least partially fused, partially canvas. Dappered.com

I've found a couple decent jackets thrifting but it takes a lot of time unless your lucky. I got a Harris tweed jacket at JCP a couple years ago and after having it taylored it looks good. An era design will look dated for most but you could go with a three piece for a traditional look. Paired with pleated, cuffed pants and a nice tweed or donegal. I think your in NE? If so, I was in Portland ME this fall and there's a shop there with the largest inventory of tweed suits I've ever seen. Not inexpensive but wow.
