NOOOO!!! H-G is the closest to Yeckel in that they harp on and on and on and on and on about the same thing, even if they haven't experienced it firsthand. Yeckel did have a legitimate issue with a bag, but like Roman's unhappy Yelper, wouldn't let it go and nothing to a point would have made him happy. But...his whining about everything else, random non sequiturs, irrelevant rants, links, and name dropping of 'famous' denim folk...all combined to make Yeckel 'Yeckel'. No one here has yet been able to duplicate that (thankfully). Why did you have to challenge us? Now someone will try to be Yeckel. Don't fret you got the scary original. I can provide some ama proof if needed, ha.

Agree w/ nearly all stated above. Initially I was enthused about a hip biz model brand that might potentially resurrect US denim - which DESERVES every assistance. To some degree, maybe G have already achieved this. Found an unusually cool community at G and many of these people contributed a lotta time, goodwill & support to assist the G Project. People not only supported it, they even protected it from negativity etc...So, I was surprised to increasingly sense there was an underlying disconnect - G weren't tuning into Radio G, they weren't listening to the troops. This is my impression...& re. this, I think it is not difficult to at least APPEAR to be tuned into some of the central popular issues/wishes....and I'm puzzled as to why G have allowed discontent to develop to where it may counter their biz goals. Unresolved mystery for me. Their jeans are fantastic for me but I need to see stuff like CxC18+ etc. that are in-demand & progressive. Maybe I no longer fit into where they're taking it - dunno, but bon chance in any case. Hope the artisanal approach/model works for Roman & similar hands-on & from-the-heart individuals/enterprises. I hope that Roman limits his generosity in relation to customization options as I fear that too many options may exhaust even the most talented & resourceful person...looks like a very nice vibe at Lawless and it's very cool that they're listening...be GREAT if they smash it!

Ship has sailed and people has moved on. I would rather spend my energy to my new interest instead of looking back on things that I really don't care anymore. I understand where you are at and I know some others might feel the same. As a forum though we think it would be valuable to have company representatives on here for a discussion. There could be great information exchanged that could benefit us and them. I think this is smart, classy, and fair.. Cody and Gustin are entitled to present their side of things. We don't necessarily have to listen, but at least we're giving them the opportunity to present their side of the story.

This Barnaby v. Julian lovers' spat over on the forum is getting pretty feisty... I could have photographed every pair I own and he'd have said the sample size was too small, that much was always going to be the case. It's weird, the Gustin hems I posted are so wonky it's actually amusing, yet the guy seems to be saying you're a dick if you have a problem with what is a very obvious... problem. BRB, need to go consult with Julian's bete noire to see if I'm within my rights to think this hem is f!@king bunk...

I learn long time ago in life that don't waste energy and time on things that make no difference or impact to the future. Whatever they said have no impact to my view on Gustins and will not deter any of my future decisions. The reason I moved on from Gustin has nothing to do with Cody or whoever. It is their products that are no longer fulfilled my needs/wants. Paying over the market price + worry about size + wait two months/three months for a clothing no longer make any sense to me today. Even they fix the size concern, I am able to find other vendors such as Lawless or TS and others that can offered me closer to what I am looking for. If one day that Gustin has what I want, I will back those without Cody comes here.

I got these second-hand so cannot be 100% sure, but I am assuming this is the premium American craftsmanship of Gustin's sewing sub because the inseam on these f!@kers is 38". The amazing thing is that this same shop is capable of turning out damn near laser-perfect work. If I could request the individual who did the hem on my Supple 16's personally sew up all my pending Gustins, I would. Because this right here is how it should be: bangtidy.

I love the fact that they continued on and sewed in the red bar tack. "hey, it's all f!@ked up, but if we put the bar tack in there, maybe they won't notice. by the way, I shouldn't have had 4 manhattans at lunch." But it started off so well! And then *WHOOPS* I'm running out of fabric. Guess I'll just follow the contour of this f!@ked up cut and call it good. If only I could trim off this screwy part and start over with a straight cut to stitch up. But that's impossible because then these jeans would no longer be 2 inches longer than they're supposed to be. Oh well. I just started cracking up when that whole hem quality throwdown kicked off over on the G site earlier. Because I was thinking of these.

Ummm... probably some newbie sew the first one. I think the problem goes back to lack of final QC. Probably. However, I find stinky's "4 Manhattans" hypothesis more amusing, so I'm gonna go with that. On a serious note, it's easy to take the piss out of G for stuff like this but I think they may actually have put their boot up the ass of their sewer and started getting some results. The hems and overall construction, faithfulness to fit guide, etc. on all the denims I've backed since early-mid July have been super. These laughably bad sewing issues (and the absurdly over-long inseams) are all on jeans that I bought via B/S/T and I believe were sewn prior to my first backings. That's what I hope, anyway. It still doesn't excuse stuff like sending out a size 37 when the customer ordered a size 36 (which has happened to me and, I believe, BrentKuz) or Julian's 33s consistently coming in 1-1.5" too small in the waist, or Devastitis' similar run of issues. But maybe my personal experience with the hems indicates that someone at the sew shop has had their feet held to the fire and things are (slowly) starting to improve as a result.

is it just me or do these also have a strange taper starting about 3" from the hem as well?

That's an artifact of the quick and dirty photo. There's a bit of a crease there from cuffing, and these are still-crispy Okas that I've only worn a couple times. So the fabric is standing up a little bit there which makes it look like a funky taper.

Committing a forum foul, but I have to admit I haven't read the rest of this thread. It looks to be the right place for such a claim. I'm sorry moderators.
I'm truly bummed that Gustin felt that the way to handle people being excited about another brand was "we'll have none of that" instead of actually determining what was piquing interest in said brand, and using that as a launching pad for their offerings, and really collaborating with their customers. Does this fit in their model? I don't know, maybe not when they're having trouble tackling the basic quality control issues everyone has seen. I do have to say, everything I've received since the announcement from Josh Gustin that they were going to be making it right and taking the problems seriously has been right. That said, it's pretty easy to see that while I may not be in the minority, it's very clear there are a lot of things still coming through and getting put into shipping bags without having a tape measure taken to them. In situations that we're starting to see, where they ship product 4-6 weeks early, there is no excuse for not maintaining the initial expectation, and getting everyone in the office on shipping days measuring some darn jeans. I haven't seen the egregious issues with hems (hemgate?) and I haven't had any major issues, but saying they don't exist is like saying that someone can't bend an iPhone 6+ with their bare hands.
This is the Internet, and Julian could be someone purposely trying to subvert Gustin's business (not trying to single out Julian, hell, I could be a Gustin person with some other name). But even if that's the opinion, you don't just ignore it when you're being lambasted in a public forum on your own company website which is the sole place of doing business. Gustin's model is one firmly planted in trust, and to allow the board to be full of commentary that shows they can't be trusted is bad, really bad. Now, either they think that everyone on the community page is lying, and there's always an element of "squeakiest wheel trying to get the grease", but I would be personally offended if a customer of mine was as unsatisfied as some of you guys are. Maybe some of you have received calls, maybe some of you only bitch on the forum hoping for something to happen. I don't know. I do know, however, that 3-6 months ago an 18oz Japanese Zimbabwean cotton wouldn't have made it through an hour on the store, even at $175, and at this rate they'll probably be up through the weekend. Especially if new customers go to the community page after finding it.
Either way, I miss seeing you guys over in the community page, Gustin has certainly lost something special, and I can't even tell if they've noticed. I hope they've found this board by now, and are looking through what's going on -- including how bummed many of their formerly strong supporters are. It's been truly shocking to see the shift in the relationship between a company this size (read: small) that was built around community, and it's customers. While it's been brewing for a few months, and maybe they've put all the improvements in place that they need that will fix all the problems we've seen. With a three month delivery cycle, though, it's pretty difficult to prove you've done what you need to to regain that trust when you're not talking about it, and not openly communicating with your customers. I've seen a lot of kickstarter projects go sour really fast due to lack of communication, but that's the nature of crowd-funding. I hope they get it back, but chambray ball-caps and Horween totes aren't a sign that they're developing in the same direction I am.

By purchasing 5 pairs in five months? I have always been very positive about Gustin's overall aim and their business in general. In fact, NONE of my comments have actually criticised Gustin, only the sew shop they use and the standard they appear to find acceptable. True, you can argue that their standards are, by association, also Gustin's standards, but I like to believe that Gustin themselves would be fairly appalled at some of the sizing and hemming issues. Also, I think it's fairly obvious I'm based in the UK. To my knowledge we have about two interesting jeans manufacturers, both operating at a totally different level and price point to Gustin. Neither use particularly interesting denim, which was the main draw for me where Gustin's concerned (and still is). Did anyone else receive that 'Would you recommend Gustin to a friend?' survey email yesterday? Maybe just pure coincidence, but that one dropped through to me fine, but I notice from my Account page that my Downtown Browns have shipped yet (for the first time ever) I have not been sent a shipping notice email about them. Strange... or is it?
