They look great. Out of curiosity, what are you doing that they require conditioning 3-4 times a year? I have been wearing these boots 3-4 times a week on average. Calling what I do conditioning might be a stretch as I really only use very small amounts of product at a time. Also of the two, the horse oil is what I would consider a proper conditioner. The VSC I use mostly for the gloss it gives the boots. Here is the horse oil I use. This is really light and easily absorbed into the leather. Horse Oil leather treatment

I like the look of this chukka. Would like to see top down shots of the derbys. So great that they have daitante on the derbys as I need more shoes to wear in winter. I'm so sick of leather soles, though I guess I can TOPY shoes with leather soles..... www.trumanboot.com/collections/in-stock-boots/products/custom-chukkaThe Salvia horse rump is calling my name. Truman needs to do a better job of posting samples. I see that the webmaster added +$15 upcharge to horse today. Doh!

Keep in mind the 430 is a heavier and thicker sole than dainite. Probably the best sole for casual boots. I'm mighty tempted to get a derby shoe in moose though. Not sure if I want to take chances with the QC. Good point about the weight.
I really like Plain Toe Bluchers\Derbys with interesting leathers. I have struggled to find them with an outsole suitable for the winter and this would fit the bill.
I like Trickers new offering and Rancourt has a new one as well, but those are both limited to fair weather wear.

Yeah, gotta have a storm welt for actual bad weather.

Yeah, gotta have a storm welt for actual bad weather. I think I'd have to go for structured toe as well. A collapsed toe on a dressier shoe would aggravate me.

Thoughts on Truman's big "return to goodyear welt" campaign they're running?

Thoughts on Truman's big "return to goodyear welt" campaign they're running? Interesting. I have to admit some ignorance when it comes to boot construction. I only own red wings, which are all goodyear welted. They've worked well for me and I've had one pair for 6-7 years with a couple of resoles by the factory and never had anything fall apart. I don't submerge them in water or anything, but when I've been out in the rain/mud, my feet have stayed dry. It seems for the vast majority of their consumers Goodyear welting is more than adequate. Stitch down construction for the "fashion boots" Truman makes kinda sounds like overkill. I'm sure the added durability stitch down construction affords you is important in logging, but for most of us city slickers it's unnecessary. My guess is there aren't a lot of guys doing hard labor in their Truman's. Edit: Looks like there is one leather being made as a Goodyear and as a stitch down. $100 price difference. I think I'd go the cheaper route, but that's just me...I'm a simple guy with simple RW's.
