I'm not a fan of leather soles at all, and have just had my only two pairs resoled in rubber. I've fallen over in leather in both dry and wet, as there's absolutely no grip whatsoever and slopes are their enemy. Even my RW IRs keep me upright.

Who they partnered with will be a huge point....but they won't tell us. It's not Alden I can tell you that. Highly doubtful as price would be too high. The boot style is odd. It's like a work boot for people that work in an office and will not rake leaves with these boots on. The mustard boot is odd. That natural though I love it. All these people running around in Alden boots must be so confused. It seems that everyone does shine them up before they post them online, though. Either way, they seem like a perfectly resilient boot, I would imagine you don't see much work done in them because they're $600, but that doesn't mean they can't do it. I see them as more of a "wear them while working your non-mining job all week, and then shine them up for church on Sunday" style of boot. I just hope that Gustin didn't hook up with whoever made those boots for Thursday Boot Company and lied about the construction. "Yes, we refer to this Polyurethane foam as squishy leather". Regarding the yellow boot, I'd guess it's actually this leather with a color balance issue (though natural horsehide would be very cool):

While they look amazing for about 2 wears, they quickly look absolutely terrible and - as you say - are almost unwearable in wet weather. Even walking over surfaces such as manhole covers is a nightmare in leather soled boots. It's clear that Gustin's boot is going for the fashion/semi-dress boot market that the 1Ks dominate at the $250-$300 price point. It does appear that they're virtually a Thursday clone (which itself was basically a 1K clone with a sleeker toebox). Pricing will be interesting. I can't see how they'll be able to put them out for anything less than $279 and, at that price, there are just too many tried and tested alternatives.

I think that I've read before that Made in USA boots don't have a ton of margin on them to begin with so I don't think they will be able to undercut the market. In which case the selling point is different leathers available in an overall shape that is sleeker. People will buy them, even people from the forum. I think a significant majority of us here are completely uninterested in their sneakers and they seem to be selling just fine, or at least they keep putting new drops up.

They look very similar... but Thursday's boots are made in Mexico, so the Gustin boots can't be from the same manufacturing facility.

The Gustin boot is an Alden plain-toe clone with a different welt and reinforced stitching at near the toe. The Thursday is a clone of the 1k (and interestingly they are 360 welt while 1ks aren't). I only mentioned them because they seemed to get undermined by the manufacturer of their boot who cut a lot of corners in the construction of the sole, which was discovered when someone cut one in half cause things weren't adding up. They still seem to be a pretty decent value for $199.

Maybe I've seen Beerfest too often, but if they name it Das Boot, I'll buy the mustard ones just on principal.

Haha ickes. Just that some denimheads worship Mr. McQueen and his style and he always wore his jeans this way, so some of it may be stemming from that.

i don't see that as being high waters. pretty common look from what i see.
i think that folks who like to cuff don't want there to be any slouch in the cuff and cuff high enough for a straight leg so there's nothing resting at the ankle bend.

I cuff, but I'm lazy, so I tend to do it for flip flops, so when I wear shoes or boots, I have a little stack. Too short looks wrong to me, a little too long is fine. Dragging the ground is just evil though.

Seems like a stupid fashion trend. Just bc of that its an unlike from the Griffy! Im just allergic to that. Some years ago the hottest thing here was to rip off half of the backpocket starting from the top so the half would hang and flap in the air, and behind that there would be a big hole showing your underwear wich looked like it had to be red big spots or something big pattern with colors. I could only see this as insanely stupid and pretty embarrasing since it was so obvious that it hadent just happened but was made to be amongst the "cool Kids". I have Come to this place in my life where i feel most trends like this is just a default no!
