Some say/believe (I don't though) that's the purpose of the throat latch. To give the wearer options on how to button. Making the neck opening larger or smaller depending on how/where you button. Are there any workshirts out there that have a multiple button throat latch or where the latch closes it to a different diameter than the top button? My experience is pretty limited with workshirts and throat latches. I think it's just reinforcement for the top button, but the guys over at denim bro could probably tell you, if we were allowed over there. Lol, I think I/We have another year and half before we're allowed back. I've heard a lot of different reasons for the Latch. But nothing conclusive (even on Denim Bros. I snuck in once). I personally think someone many years ago wanted to distinguish their shirts from everyone else. So they put the latch on. Then everyone did it (I wonder if there's a patent on it?). I agree its more to reinforce and make the top sit better. I haven't seem any shirt with more then two buttons and holes. But you could use the first button and first hole for a bigger opening or last button last hole for a smaller opening (its a little odd but do able)

Like this (not the greatest shirt to do this with, because it fits great on me) . Again not my thought on what the latch is for but some say so.

Lol for a moment. ickes I'd be interested what others think of why there's a latch. You should move this to its own thread, with a pole. Whats the throat latch for? 1- to adjust neck opening 2- better secure top - 3- just a novelty 4- other

FYI, you can do all those things. We have the technology.

I sometimes do up the top button (like the look) & sometimes I don't. Personally, I don't really dig throat latches; think they're funky, that the function element is unnecessary...anyhow, some quality Japanese brands (& perhaps some others) such as Freewheelers have sorted this problem by building an option to disappear the latch - I bought this grey workshirt last year & it's a beautiful shirt (if you scroll down you can see the feature I'm referring to): global.rakuten.com/en/store/old-goat/item/10001143/

I hear Ya highlights . Most of the time I will button up with the latch, rather them let it hang. If it's to hot to button I take the shirt off. I like the look of a fully buttoned shirt. Reminds me of the 1920,30's Dust Bowl days when it seemed improper to go out in public with out a tie or at least buttoned up.

Of course I don't button up though when I'm wearing my Ascot. Because ickes would just find that silly!

Now that I've worn it a few times, I'd say there seems to be too much fabric in the lower portion of the shirt. The gussets seem to be too wide, causing them to fold together and stick out on the sides. I couldn't go down a size, as the chest is perfect. Anyone have that problem with this shirt? I have this shirt and, while I like it, the fit is probably the worst of my five IH shirts. whiskeyriver, I have the same problem. Chest fits fine but the opening is too large. The shape is a bit like a bell.

Man this is another shirt that is growing on me. It is very much the Jack Nicholson from cuckoo's nest. Which means it's bad ass and insane asylum approved.

Btw, I dont agree with the bell shaped comments at all regarding the fit of this shirt. Like I said, my IHSH-21 fits great...yes there's room in the midsection but it's a WS...it's not supposed to be slim fitting in the waist. There's an obvious taper from chest to waist on mine, just not as drastic as a form fitting shirt would be.
Oh, and it looks bad ass when worn with the IH 707 work chinos.

ickes - no I haven't. Not sure what size to get I am thinking large but if it shrinks like most IH shirts I'll go XL. Hopefully with my bday coming up the gf will pick it up

Short arms. The 102 work shirt I have in large. The 62-ind XL.
Tend to see the workshirt cut is a fuller one compared to western.
