Dang it..Context just had to go on and do it. I waited for the return of the Context Roy Boot in Earth Chamois for like half a year, and not seeing it come back, I pulled the trigger on the ePaulet Indy Boot in Earth Chamois. But the CRBiEC is back..I've already incurred a $20 return shipping fee for one pair of ill-fitting boots, do I bite the bullet and eat the cost of another $20 return shipping and grab the Context Roy Boot. Decisions.. FWIW, I like the Indy better than the Roy. Crepe wears down like a sunofabitch.

They're nice and squishy and good for shock absorption, but provide bad support I have heard. But perhaps I've heard wrong. The crepes on my Clarks and Seavees wore down extremely fast. But perhaps I walk like Frankenstein.

But perhaps I walk like Frankenstein. They're nice and squishy so your feet don't have to be! I think support is far less a product of the outsole and far more a product of the insole, though, and would have a hard time attributing it to the material of the sole. For example standard converse and vans have very similar sole materials, but the converse feel like a torture device, where vans are nice and comfy because they actually have a decent insole.

Converse all stars are probably the most unsupportive shoe ever

Aldens have a different type of crepe than say Red Wings. It's a plantation crepe as they call it.

Converse all stars are probably the most unsupportive shoe ever That's why they're good for lifting, as they are very flat, but not good for walking.

Yeah, true. Mostly the insole. I just have a "thing" with crepe I guess, as I returned a pair of Seavees and Clarks each after they both began to disintegrate rather quickly. But the replacements did the same, which is when I came to conclusion it was just the way crepe is and not a defect. But perhaps they use cheaply-made crepe? I dunno. I do love my Clarks though, but they were only a $70 investment.

See this thread for a discussion about/examples of the durability of it: https://www.reddit.com/r/goodyearwelt/comments/2iko5i/how_durable_is_aldens_plantation_crepe_sole/ Reading these, if it were my money, I'd steer clear of those boots. But that's just me.

I personally think they look amazing, and if you know going into it (as devastitis does) that they will need to be resoled in short order, then NBD. Actually, I think it's an opportunity, because you can get whatever sole you ultimately want quickly.

I think the Indy toe is the only Alden that works for me. I'm sure the plain toes are well made, but that shoe is a snooze.

I'd just be sure to get a price for the resole, since they will have to rebuild all of the outsole, and that might sway my decision on whether to get them.

I want the Olive Pamolas with the LH sole, but I'm scared about how long it will take to put them on and my feet are currently blistered all to hell from my recent Red Wing purchase.

If you're considering the ePaulet Alden Ironside Indy Boot, and are a size 9 Trubalance, then a guy on Grailed his selling his barely worn pair for under $500, which is a steal of a price. Probably could get it for $450 shipped if you offer it to him. I'm considering it since I'm in between a 8.5D and 9D Trubalance.

Looks like Alden is raising their prices again by $8-$12. Makes me wonder if it's demand that's driving prices upward or is it really that the cost of leather has gone up? Glad I bought my Alden shells back in 2010 when prices were somewhat cheap. I also wonder if this will mean an increase from other shoemakers that use Horween leather in their makeups?

I'm considering grabbing the red, but was hoping for a brighter green than the forest green they have, and maybe a yellow. The flat shipping cost is putting me on pause though. Are there any other websites that sell Alden-esque laces? 54" is good enough, but I think 60" would be ideal.
